We bought this unit and had it installed on our new Winnebago Vista with a Winegard Traveler Satellite Dish. Everything was great until I tried to activate the receiver with Dish. Long story short after spending over an hour on the line with Dish and paying to
have a contractor come out to check it after Dish Tech support gave up and gave me the phone # for their contractor, the contractor double checked what Dish had for the receiver # and smart card #......sure enough they had not got the correct # and hadn't
bothered once to double check this with me!!!! Could this have been because I hadn't bought the receiver from them directly?? Hmmmm I wonder!
We like this receiver a lot. The last one didn't work nearly as well for us. We got the TailGater and the combination is
awesome. Last week we camped along the river, in a canyon, surrounded by mountains and a dam. We have never gotten reception there before but had no trouble with this combination. We had all our local channels as well. The weather was not so nice and we watch a lot of basketball.
I purchased it not knowing if my six year old disk would work (it had sat unused for all its life), it wouldn't work so I completely tore it apart and made it work (I couldn't get any body to help me). I then plugged in the VIP211K
receiver, and it booted up and it worked like a charm. Called Dish Network and signed up for their cheep, monthly
very limited programing. I think the time it took from turning on the receiver, TV, disk, calling the Dish Network
and purchasing the program, and receiving TV programs was
maybe 1 1/2 hours. I can't verify the picture quality because I have an old analog TV but I see the potential of
HD with it. It works!
Unit appears to work as it should. This unit does get hot,
be sure to place it in a well vented area. The cost to set
up programming for the first time was $47.98. This was for
the America's Top 120 programming. The small size of the
unit is a real plus. Also to get free local channels, you
must have the receiver activated.
After reading previous reviews, I commissioned the receiver on my home dish. I received programming in a matter of minutes, but being in a time crunch, I didn't check all the channels. I wasn't told that I needed to do a switch check.
On the second try, after the switch check, I received all the channels. And you do not need to download the scheduling
every time you hook up to the tailgater. We did have some problem with getting HD channels at one campground-that
could have been interference from a tree.
If you have a Dish account you will get the same programing as your Dish TV at home.See the review under the Tailgater
reviews by Randybill for more details. The most time consuming was having the Dish tech add the receiver to my
account, about 15 minutes.
Same great product from Dish Network so it is equal to hy home HD Dish system. Easy set up. Nice feature are the phone numbers on the wrapper sleeve on the box. It has a special phone number for existing Dish customers and a special phone number
for new Dish customers. They are not the same as the main 800 number in the manual. Straight to Tech Support and within a simple 2 minute phone call he had this receiver added to my existing account for $7 a month added to my bill. Now I can watch my exact same programming package when out in my camper or wherever I take the reciever and my Tailgater. Very happy with this purchase.
Now I get the full benefit of my monthly satellite bill by getting to use my programming
when I am out camping rather than paying for days when I am not at home watching
TV. At least that is how I justify this luxury for my camper.
Since I already had a Dish Network accout, this and the Tailgater antenna seemed like a perfect addition to my camping supplies. Over all the system worked well after I got it synced up. It took three calls to the Dish Network customer service folks before I could
get a reliable signal. The last lady that helped me said that this combination was new and that there had been some complaints about losing signal. After she talked me through a dignostic, the system worked fine for the rest of the trip. Antenna location was not a factor but signal strength was weak until the dignostic was run. Will know more the next time I take it out
I recently switched Satellite services and Dish is more user friendly and having HD service is great. Dish is much better for RVer's you pay as you need it no fees or lease charges for receiver. I recommend their service even their packages are cheaper than Direct TV. Good luck with your choice.
We bought the VIP211k and a Tailgater satellite antenna for our RV trips when no cable is available. It was rather easy
to setup and operate both the receiver and the Tailgater antenna. One phone call to DISH and we had an account established for reception. We chose the Family Plan as it
was rather inexpensive and we did not have to sigh a contract. In fact DISH is perfect for RV'ers because you can let your subscription lapse and not pay for the months you
do not RV. Perfect for us part timers. You simply go online or call the DISH service cent and pay ahead for the month and you are back in service and enjoying what satellite TV
has to offer. The VIP211k receiver was fairly simple to operate both in setting up the tailgater and letting it find the satellite on it's own as well as navigating the channels. DISH has a channel 101 which is DISH University
where you can learn the various features of the system. Glad we bought it and looking forward to use on the road.
We bought the 211K receiver with the Carryout ant and tripod mount. The receiver has one TV output and in the basic configuration does not do DVR. But this works just fine for us. In the motor home it works with both front and rearTV's. The installation videos
at DishformyRV.com were essential to successfully setting up the system. I
recommend subscribing thru them. They are the only ones who speak RV. Dish had made a change to the receiver software since the videos were made which made the initial set up confussing but with a few calls to Dish tech support and DishformyRV tech support, we were up and running in no time. DishformyRV is now updating their videos for the software change. We travel about 8 months a year and with this system we can use it at our brick and mortar home when we are not on the road. After the initial set up, the receiver has worked flawlessly. The remote has all tne necessary functions and works great with our Samsung TV as well.
i use this receiver with my tailgater from dish network purchased from camping world when i first used this reciever there was some confusion about whether i needed a installer at my home or rv
the young lady checked and added the receiver to my regular account for $7.00 a month when i asked about progaming she said i would get all the channells i subscribe to i had asked about the monthly on and off service she said i could do this but it would be cheaper to add the receiver to my account
at camping world and dish network it is explained that the on and off service is monthly and you cannot have the service for two days then stop and start it back for a week etc. the picture and sound are great and setup is easy and you dont have to worry where
you motorhome or whatever you camp with is on your lot is as long as you have a spot clear of trees or other structures to set the dish just enter the zipcode or county and state and the diish does the rest
This does not include an antenna, no. This is just the receiver.

What is the return policy?

I purchased a used class A recently with a dish on the roof, but I'm not sure it works. If I purchase this receiver form you may I return it for a full refund if my existing equipment does not work? My option would be to purchase something else, not necessarily from you.

The ViP211k is HD compatible and is DVR ready. You will need an external USB hard drive to use the DVR function.

If you buy the reciever for DirectTV, they consider it a lease. Is this true of the Dish recievers also?

All satellite receiver boxes are property of the service provider, the "purchase" of this equipment is technically a lease agreement. The same concept applies if you get the equipment directly from the service provider.
