Caught this icemaker on a great off season sale and I must say this an awesome piece. As advertised dumps the first dozen ice cubes in 15 minutes. After I ran a few cycles I figured out that for just drinks use the small cube setting, it makes the cubes more quickly. Looking forward to using the Dometic portable for camping, fishing, hunting, and just anytime I need more ice.

I think the unit is a bit pricey but The ice maker performed pretty much as advertised . We are trying to use it to make the Ice then store the Ice in our refrigerator's freezer. Just as someone else commented this ICE is wet ice and therefore tends to freeze into clumps in our freezer storage bin . Also , the excess moisture that forms a significant ICE
lump after several loads must be dealt with . We are dealing with the inconvenience by only making a little at a time and storing it in our fridge freezer and every day or two we empty and dry our freezer ice storage bin . Of course we could dry the ice as we transfer it to the freezer by dumping and tumbling it in a clean towel before placing into freezer .
The ice maker certainly produces ice faster than we can use in our normal usage pattern and , I believe it to be a worthwhile investment for our personal lifestyle .

Makes a lot of ice, but you have to stay on top of the process. You'll have to watch the
water level constantly if you want to make a lot of ice. The unit does not keep very cold,
so you will need to empty the ice as soon as it fills up. Do not put the unit in a warm
area as the ice melts quickly. It is amazing how fast it makes ice.

I was camping in 90+ degrees, for over a week. I bought ice to fill a large cooler for
beverages the day I left. The Ice Maker kept if topped off for the entire week! I had it set up on an end table outside the trailer, under the awning. Would start it after breakfast, and let it run through cocktail hour. I like the size of the ice cubes, so I now use it for cocktail ice at
home.

Very easy to use. 3 settings for ice cube sizes. Once it is chilled down, mine will make 12
small cubes in 7 minutes. Medium in 9 minutes and large in 11. Even comes with a small
ice scoop. I even rigged up a direct water feed through the side drainage plug. This way
I'm not running back and forth filling the 1 gallon + reserve up all the time. It is well built
and insulated. Keeping it out of direct sunlight helps a ton in the cooling process.

Best investment I've made for the RV

Best investment I've made for the RV. We were spending $1.80 each for three bags of ice every 3 to 4 days for the ice chest (our freezer is too small to make ice). I bought
this on sale. By mid month it will have more than paid for itself. My husband loves it, now he can have as much ice in his drinks as he wants and still have enough for the ice chest. Works just like it says it will.

Ice maker did not want to work right away. Directions did say to let set for several hours after we received from shipper, to let freon settle. Did find a helpful hint on internet to tilt machine forward about 45 degrees and then try again. Website claimed the float inside
line can get stuck in shipping. Did not have any trouble making ice the next day. Made a couple of ice cream buckets of ice throughout the day. Looks like it will be a asset for our camping adventures though.

We bought this rather than repair the ice maker in our home refrigerator. (It takes about 2 1/2 hours to fill our ice bin with medium-sized ice cubes.) Although we haven't taken it in the RV yet, we look forward to not having to deal with multiple ice cube trays!
People should note that the ice made is wet ice. The ice maker is not a freezer for storing ice, so when you put the ice into the refirgerator freezer, the cubes will freeze together. We solve that problem by putting the ice in Ziplock bags. When we need loose ice, simply dropping the bag on the floor will break the cubes apart to then put in your ice
bin. (Actually, in the RV we use the Ziplock bags to store ice anyway.)
The ice maker is HEAVY at nearly 50 pounds. It has a rather large (for an RV) footprint and may present storage problems in smaller RVs. Also, the rubber feet will leave black marks on countertops if it slides across the surface. (For these reasons, I only gave it
four stars.) We solved the black mark problem by putting it on a small towel.
The water reservoir holds enough water to make about 7 pounds of ice. This is enough to fill the icemaker's ice bin 2 1/2 or 3 times. When the bin fills with ice, a sensor will shut off the process until the ice level drops (either by melting or you removing the ice.) If the water reservoir level gets too low, another sensor will shutdown the icemaker.
We are very well pleased with our purchase, so far. The machine does all the manufacture claims for it. It works for us exactly as I hoped it would. (I hate dealing with ice cube trays!)

This small ice maker is the best investment I have made for my camper. It makes more
than enough ice for my familys needs, any extra is put in freezer bags and put in the
freezer at home for even more ice.

August 13, 2011
I was thrilled to have purchased an ice maker, we were going on vacation with a lot of
family that likes frozen drinks. Plugged it in and gave it plenty of time to make the ice
which it did just like the instructions said, however I am very disappointed that the ice
couldn't be stored in the machine. If we didn't keep taking it out it would melt and
remake the ice, not sot bad if you don't need yo use it right away and could put it in your
freezer. Putting in the freezer makes it all clump together and makes it hard for use in a
cup or blender.. The size of the ice maker is BIG and the amount of ice it makes is not
proportioned. It works well and was quiet, just not happy that it won't store the ice...

This ice maker was easy to set up. Once the water was added, plugged it in and in 14
minutes had the first set of ice cubes. Within 1 1/2 hours had the first basket full of
ice. Took it camping and it sure saved on having to purchase ice for drinks on a hot
day. It's small enough to fit in the exterior storage compartment of our RV. I would
highly recommend this ice maker to anyone.

An Objective Review

Performs as advertised, however there are a few things to know. Says it will make 30 lbs a day, probably so, but doesn't have room to store but maybe 3 blenders full. The front half of the machine is combination water reservoir AND ice storage. The back half is compressor. 4 rubber feet that will leave gummy residue on your hands or counter if you slide it. Also, beware of sharp edges of the metal on bottom corners if you pick it up that way. 7 stitches from mine last week. I duct taped the corners. Cubes are not solid, but hollow round. So will melt a bit faster. Good for what it is.

I have only had this portable Ice Maker for a little over a month and wish I had bought it earlier. It works great. I get up in the a.m. and start making ice and within a short amount of time we have ice for the entire day. Just love it.

Really nice to have for drinking ice around the campsite and for filling small coolers.
Don't expect to fill a huge cooler as it would take too long. Normally, I buy one 35lb bag of ice for my large cooler for the adult carbonated beverages to get started and then keep it topped off with ice from the Dometic. Very convenient for quality mixed drinks and iced beverages. A bit noisey which can detract from a peacful and quiet setting but not so much so that it should prevent you from using it. If using outside, it's a good idea
to check the water resevoir occasionally as small water loving bugs do find their way inside. It's easy to scoop a bug out with a clean papertowel. No regrets on this purchase!
