I bought one for a 10 day trip to Lake Havasu dead center summer. My usual campground charges $5.00 for a pound of cubes. We ran it to death...litterally. I ran it over because I forgot it was under my RV making ice.. Camping World laughed, Dometic said replace it! My newest unit I carry along on my sailboat. I now keep it far enough out that I can see it.

Makes 12 cubes every 9 - 10 minutes. Easy operation. Although it is a little heavy, it is better than waiting on ice trays are going to the store for ice.

We have not had a chance to use it with our RV because the season in New England hasn't started yet, but we have used it several times here at home and it is terrific. It makes the ice very quickly in 3 different sizes. It appears to be very well made and hope to get many camping seasons of use.

This product lives up to the description. After taking out of the box and cleaning, we had ice cubes in minutes and it keeps on making cubes until it runs out of water. Highly recommend.

Outstanding portable ice maker. I tried it out on my patio and had ice with 1 hour. I am looking forward to my next NASCAR race and camping as no more buying ice (at an inflated price) so this will pay for itself over a short time. Highly recommend!

We had some unfortunate experiences with two ice makers and also some people misinformed us regarding returning the ice maker. A Dometic customer representative contacted us via email and was very accommodating in that they sent us another ice maker. The jury is still out on the ice maker because we still need to use it but the customer service is top notch and Dometic should pride themselves in this. They even threw in some extra things for our frustrations. Nice job Dometic!

Purchased ice maker mid summer '11 following July trip to State Park on Cape San Blas FL. Camped with bro-n-law and together bought $30 ice. Next trip that summer IM made enough ice for both MH's. Worked exactly as advertised. We let the basket fill, empty into gallon freezer bag and store in MH freezer. Rap on counter will break ice for use. Why do wealthy people puchase coaches(a BUS by definition) when Motor Homes are beautiful. Great product!

We used this ice maker all summer. It performed right out of the box just like it was advertised it would. Good enough that I bought a second one to use in our house on occassions and in our truck camper when we traveled. (Since we had many days over 100 this summer we put it inside the camper to keep it producting ice quickly. But it made ice outside quickly till it got above 90 degrees.) Great item.

We've had ours for several months now and it works great. We are able to have ice for drinks and also for filling our ice chest. We found that if you keep a gallon jug of water in the refirgerator or ice chest to keep it cold, the ice makes much faster. We are able to make plenty of ice, sometimes more than we need. After finding a spot to put it in our camper, it's become one of the appliances we rely on the most. Great idea Dometic...

Works like a charm, first used at Lake Havasu, AZ in September, in 110 degree heat. We were there 3 weeks and never had to buy a single bag of ice, which saved us a minimum of $80.00. The trick is to keep unit in the RV and not outside. Our friends kept their unit outside in the bay and had no where near the ice we did. Takes about 3 hours to get going at maximum performance. There are complants of it being loud but if on carpet and A/C fans running you won't hear it. Highly recommend it. Brought it home over Thanksgiving as we had a housefull and it kept up with ice needs. Great unit. Does what it is suppose to.

I bought it eventually for my RV, but since I am a truck driver I decided to try it in the truck.Other reviewers have said it is not a cooler, but if the ice melts, it will make cubes from them again. I have only used it for a couple of weeks, but so far I am very pleased with it.

works better than anticipated, first half hour slow, then drops ice about every 10 minutes, large is sufficient for ice chests, if you store ice for later use have bags ready so you can put in freezer immediately, we buy a lot of ice for camping and every drop on the maker is the sound of $$$ saved, probably would be ok for refreshing cold drinks - but not why we purchased it, absolutely recommend

easy to set up makes ice as advertised in about 10 to 13 minutes the only draw back I have is the ice sticking together and they plainly tell you to remove the ice after it makes because it is not a freezer. if you leave it the ice will melt together.

When the closest available outlet for ice cubes is 25+ miles away, what do you do? Well, we just plug in our nifty little ice cube maker and relax! It draws little current when plugged into shore power as well as letting the generator idle along in eco-mode. We recommend this beauty without reservation.

Worked as advertised right out of the box. Have used the Dometic Portable Ice Maker on three camping trips so far and it has kept the cooler and other ice needs topped off eliminating the need to buy ice at the campground. At this rate it will pay for itself by the end of next year's camping season. At home it has supplied ice for large family dinners and for gatherings at the pool. Except for adding water and emptying the ice, it takes care of itself. No worries if left unattended for the day as it will shut itself off if it runs out of water or if the ice bin fills to capacity. Love it.

Its Great ! After finding space to put it , We enjoyed the ice it made. I noticed after using the machine for an hour ice was made faster. Location has a lot to do with the performace of the ice maker. In other words you would not put it in the sun but some where shadey or in the coach. Ours was in the coach. A great addition to our RV.

This ice maker worked as described. It makes very little noise, only when dumping a batch of ice. Bought ice to start a week long trip and the ice maker did the rest. You will go through two gallons of water a day running all day long with the largest ice setting being used. The rubber feet kept the ice maker steady in place on the RV counter during travel. A quality built piece of equipment.

Wiped the unit out, poured water in the tank, and had ice in 15 min then about every 7 min there after. It is a little big and heavy, but have found a spot to store and place when camping. Looking forward to many hours of usage.

This is simply the best... it makes and holds ice even on the hottest of days 116 degrees! Always have fresh ice for drinks with enough for you cooler also. WARNING: The ice maker PUTS OUT A LOT OF HEAT. Its cooling fans throw off lots of heat... so much so we ducted ours out the window behind it to assure the AC worked without fighting off the heat wave from the icemaker. Note the heat vents from both side corners and vents in the back... blows lots of hot air you can feel! Venting out the window (with a few simple seals around the window and the ice maker) cures the problem. But Ice Maker is a must have; You will love it!

It does indeed make ice rather quickly. I like being able to choose the size of the cubes it makes as well. Runs very quietly. Just bear in mind that this isn't an ice chest. Once it makes the ice, it begins to melt as it sits in the holding bin. The good thing is the ice water recycles back in to the process.

After 11 days of camping this ice maker worked great. Started at 8:00 and shut off at 11:00 and it just ran. Great for replenishing coolers, drinks, frozens.... Suggest a spare ice cooler if you are stocking up.

We purchased the Ice Maker due to having to travel 5-12 miles for ice while camping. We just returned from a two week camping trip where we only had to purchase 4 bags of ice. The ice maker produced ice to keep drinks cold in the cooler and still provide ice for drinks. It stores in the front closet in our travel trailer and is easily moved to an outside table under the awning. Very happy with the product and friends are impressed with it also.

Purchased this thing online to replace a Roam Brand ice maker that froze up. It did just fine for about 3 months, then something in the gear drive of the tray broke and the tray wouldn't cycle. Since the mechanism is sealed up, there's no way of knowing what went wrong. I've decided I'm not buying any more of these things......when they break, they're just good for target practice.

Works good. Easy to clean. Is heavy but it stays were you put it. Is well insulated. From pressing the on button at room temp. it takes about 2 hours & 45 minutes to fill the tray with ice. The next tray of ice fill up takes about 2 hours. The ice in the tray weights 2 1/2 up to 3 LBS. Of course I would like to make ice faster But for the money and minimal power draw I like it in my house and the RV.

We are on our third one in a year. This machine has alot of problems. Domectic is no help, and when we take them back to camping world, they keep wanting us to take another extended warranty. Paid for the extended warranty the first time, refuse to pay again.

Bought this item to ensure I would have ice when it wasn't available elsewhere. Read all the other reviews and found most fairly accurate. It makes great ice (I mostly use the large size) in a very short period of time. One thing I do agree with from previous reviews is that it makes ice, but is not a refrigerator. So, if in a hot area, you have to pull the ice out and put into the freezer of a good cooler to preseve the ice. Otherwise, it will melt over time and just remake the ice again. Cooler weather and out of the sun/heat, it's not a problem and you can let it run to make a full basket of ice before you have to remove. Bottom line is that it's a great ice maker, does what it claims to do by making it fast, keeps making ice as needed and saves money not having to buy ice in bags. I did not find it a problem keeping up with filling the reservoir.

We use lots of ice when on the road and using up half the freezer space for a bag of ice just didn't make sense. We looked at the Dometic I/M and were initially put off by the price but it went on sale and we thought, let's give it a go. We are very glad we did, it has performed flawlessly! The only criticism we have is that it weighs alot and is very bulky. We have traveled with it twice and are going to be trying out another location strategy on the next leg of our trip, hopefully it will be better than inside the camper, time will tell.

The ice maker works really well, and provides plenty of ice in a short amount of time. However, since the cubes are not a solid block cube like from a refrigerator/freezer, but rather have a hole in the center, they don't last as long as a regular cube does. They also come out very wet so they tend to stick together when moved to a freezer, but we used ours on last camping trip and it kept us in plenty of ice the entire time - I just had to bust them apart with an ice pick. We also had to return our unit due to a cracked lid - can't say whether it came out of the box like that and we didn't notice it, or whether a couple of days of repeated opening and shutting caused it - but we already have received another one and it's fine. All in all, this is a great item, but I think a little on the pricey side.

When we received our ice maker it was not as heavy as I thought it would be. We tried it out and were surprised at how fast the ice formed and how it worked. Made several batches of the little thimble shaped ice cubes. Highly recommend this to anyone who uses high volumes of ice -- it's a real money saver.

Made ice in about 12 minutes of start up, fills the basket in a little over an hour. Makes wet ice so place in a zip lock baggie and freeze. When you want if for a drink just bang on the counter and the ice loosens right up. I am very happy with my purchase. Kept the cooler full all weekend.

Awesome machine, produces a dozen ice cubes every 5 minutes, in 3 easily selectable sizes. Produces more than enough ice for an enjoyable day camping, or party at home. Don't forget to make an extra batch for the black water tank....let your ice scrub your tank as you drive. Unit will pay for itself in one season for sure.

Always wanted one of these and finally found it on sale and got it. I probably won't be taking it camping in my new 10' trailer, too heavy. I do have it in my laundry room set up to stay and make ice about every 2 or 3 days and put it in the freezer. I had my first cubes in 10 minutes!! My favorite is the medium cube. Now my sister wants one!!

We are getting ready to return our second ice maker. Obviously from the reviews we are just not having good luck with them. It makes ice great, then all of a sudden we get the add water light and it has water in it. We turn off the ice maker. Let it rest for at least 30 minutes, plug it back in and turn it on, and it makes ice for two or three times. Then we get the same thing again. Now, just like before when we plug it in, it runs and then the add water light comes on and no ice is made. What could we be doing wrong?
