Customer Reviews For Elite Window Awnings

Problem with ordering, but finally installed successfully - August 26, 2008

Based on information provided by the phone ordering center, ordered two window awnings a 48 & 144 (i.e., fabric width = ordering width). Got free shipping and the awnings arrived as scheduled. It became apparent shortly that the awnings were not wide enough for our application. Called customer service and was told to measure window and add 5, then round up to the next standard size. This meant that I now needed three awnings, because 144 was the largest available. (note: I was going to cover two windows with one awning originally) Camping World, shipped the replacement awnings immediately, and picked up the old awnings at no additional shipping cost. Of course I had to pay the difference in the cost for the true sizes, but that is only fair. The awnings went up very easily and they work great. My only complaint in the whole process was that I was originally given incorrect sizing information. CW should have measuring information in the catalog and/or make sure that their representatives are trained properly. Overall Customer Service was excellent and we are very satisfied.

Having previously installed 3 window awnings we were looking forward to having some shade on our dining room window. However when we had installed the awning it would not pull down all the way. When we called Dometic they told us to take it to a certified dealer, which we did and they charged us $59.40 to fix it - it seems the tension was too tight. We sent the bill to Dometic fully expecting to be reimbursed. However this was not to be the case. When I called them Al McGuire told me that NOWHERE in the WHOLE country had they ever delivered an awning in which the tension was too tight, so we must have messed up the installation. It didn't matter that we had followed the installation instructions to the letter. So, when you order an awning from A&E I hope you will never have tension problems because then you are on your own. Incidentally when I called Camping World they assured me that all their awnings come with the correct tension.

I was impressed with the item and especially with the instructions for installation. I and my son had the 144 inch awning installed in a short time with no problems. I was worried when I ordered the awning that I may have a hard time to mount it. But it was really easy by just following the instructions. Thanks for the item and the written word. I had called a local RV dealer and questioned them on the cost of them installing the awning. I was told at least 3 hours at $99 per hour. So I am really a happy camper that I could do it with the help of my son in a lot less than 3 hours, and not 3 X $99.
