Description

CAMCO MFG INC 687
Close quarters at rallies and tailgate parties create a need for noise and exhaust fume reduction.
The Camco Gen-turi RV Generator Exhaust System is a venting system designed specifically for RV generators that provides for fresher air around RVs as well as reduces generator noise. The Gen-turi utilizes a tubing and coupling system to raise generator exhaust above the top level of your RV. It can be used with RVs utilizing virtually any exhaust pipes size by way of a variety of adapters. Additional features include: lightweight design, a rubberized stabilizing/sound reduction system and a storage bag.

The Camco Gen-turi Air Cooled Generator Exhaust System is designed for near universal compatibility. With that in mind it can be used with any recreational vehicle that utilizes an exhaust pipes with outside diameters of 1", 11/4", 1 3/8", 1 1/2", 1 5/8", 1 3/4" and 2". Adapters required for 1¼", 1?", and 1½" are included. These will accommodate most installations. Adapters required for 1", 1 5/8", 1 3/4" and 2" may be purchased separately.

It is recommended that the Genturi exhaust pipe extend 6" above your RV's roofline. Genturi has an overall length of 120". Please measure your RV for compatibility. 18" extension for taller Rvs may be purchased separately.

Tech Specs

Weight: 9.85 lbs.

Dimensions: 124"L assembled; disassembles to 44"L x 11"W

Warranty: Mfr. lifetime warranty.

Manufacturer: Camco Mfg Inc

Mfg Part #: 44461

Tech Notes:

Why you need a Gen-turi:

Close quarters at rallies and tailgate parties create a need for noise and exhaust fume reduction. Gen-Turi diverts nasty fumes away from the ground, where they are often inhaled by neighboring RVers.

How Gen-turi reduces generator noise:

Exhaust noise comes from generator vibration and the sound made by gases leaving the exhaust pipe. Gen-turi, secured to the side of the RV with rubber straps, prevents transfer of the generator's vibration noise to the coach. Noise is diverted upward, above the roof line. As a result, in most installations, the exhaust system is quieter with Gen-turi installed.

Used it today for the first time at a Dolphins game tailgate.... Reduced the normal Gen noise in the area that happens to be where my grill sits. Tried the double sticky tape, but the support straps are going to need screws or pop rivets. It could be 2 longer for my Newmar coach!! Love it!!

BOUGHT THIS PRODUCT LAST WEEK THINKING IT WOULD BE GREAT TO HAVE JUST IN CASE. WAS OUT AT FRIENDS FARM TO WHICH WE HAVE BE BEFORE IN THE OPEN FIELD WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THE CARBON DETECTOR CAME ON IN THE MASTER SUITE. WENT OUTSIDE NO PROBLEM GENERATOR RUNNING FINE. GUESS THE WIND WAS BLOWING EXHAUST UNDER TRAILER. SO I GOT THE SYSTEM OUT OF BOX INSTALLED IN BOUT 15 MIN. NO MORE NOISE FROM DETECTOR. ONLY PROBLEM IS IT IS ABOUT 9 SHORT OF BEING 6 ABOVE ROOF, EASY FIX. SOME SAY IT GETS VERY HOT TO TOUCH. NOT SO. USED MINE ON A ONAN 5500. EXCELLENT PRODUCT! IT DOES THE JOB VERY WELL! DON'T THINK ABOUT GETTING ONE GET ONE! SURE GLAD I DID AND THE WIFE WAS TO.

Gen-turi works as advertised

Bought the Gen-Turi last year and used it for the first time this summer at Lime Rock Park. The campers next to us were in a tent and using the Gen-Turi kept the exhaust fumes out of their tent. Like others we bought suction cups to mount ours. I bought 4 so I added an additional mount for the top of the pipe so it didn't hit the motorhome. I cut a foam block as a spacer for the top mount and used bungee cords. I am now thinking about getting an extra one for my Aqua Hot burner exhaust.

Everything fit well and the Gen-turi seemed to work fine. I was surprised that the noise inside the coach was quite a bit lower and no evidence of fumes. However, I wish that I had known ahead of time that I would need an extension to have the exhaust go over the roof.

Installed easy and worked great...the second time around. The first one was not built properly and had to be sent back. The return and credit to my account went without a hitch. This also could be extended another 12 inches to clear the top of my motorhome and I had to place some material between the pipe and the coach to keep it from rubbing. The pipe was only warm to touch so this was not a problem. Gen-turi should consider adding an extension and the material to make this a complete package.

Haven't used Gen-Turi on the road yet but set it up to do my monthly generator run. RV is parked next to my garage and didn't want to melt the vinyl siding. Setup was easy and the product performed as stated. Cleared the top of my RV by at least 1 foot. Used suction cups purchased from Harbor Freight rather than furnished hardware. We use RV parks for the most part but it's nice to know the Gen-Turi will be there when I need it.

I don't know if this has happened to anyone else, but when we returned from our first trip using the Gen-turi Generator Exahust System, our 1 yr old generator in or 1 yr old motor home stopped working. Still runs, but does not produce power to the RV. Currenty in the process of attempting to getting it fixed. No one seems to know what is wrong with it. Also, we cleaned the areas very well before applying the hooks with the sticky tape, however they did not last the 5 day trip.

Stack not tall enough

June 13, 2012
The basic concept and design is well thought out, however the overall length is about 8 inches too short. As a result, the end of the stack rubs against the side of our motorhome. To stop rub damage to the side of our rig, I tie strapped 1 inch foam around the top of the stack. Other than that, the system works great. It packs nicely into a bag that is easily stored. Tip: wear goes when taking the stack apart, otherwise, you will get your hands black from exhaust carbon.

I found this to be well made and work as advertised. I also like that it's light weight and Installing the clamp on the exhaust was easy. I haven't decided yet whether to rivet the attachments on for the rubber straps or just use suction cups. I would recommend this product.

We just spent a week of dry camping @ Talladega Speed way in the fam camp, campground was full as is for most of the NASCAR races. I had tent campers on my left side where the gen exhaust comes out. The Gen-turi exhaust system worked great keeping exhaust fumes up and away from fellow campers. Also made gen a little bit quiter .

Haven't used it yet in the field but installation was quick once we modified the exhaust pipe (less than $20 at a local muffler shop) on our Generator to extend at a perpendicular angle to the coach. Originally exhaust was at a downward angle so the system would have been leaning out away from the coach because of the 90 deg elbow with the system. we are using suction cups instead of the sticky tape to hold the straps so as not damage our paint. Overall great product!

Gen-turi works as specified. You Tube video was very helpful. I had to make a few modifications as far as installation because of the slide on the RV but not a big deal. Easy enough to use and to store. It even muffles the sound a bit as well. A must have for tailgating.

Although the product appears to do everything the advertising says it will and the installation was straight forward enough, I did find once I pulled everything out of the package that the second pip was cracked. This was something that could only have happened in shipping as was most likely the result of a heavier package being placed on top of it.. I was able to repair it and am hopeful that once we have had a chance to us it will find it to be what we need to keep piece with our neighboring campers.

It works great! It does what the mfg. desigened it for. The only thing I see that could be improved, is the hook up of the shock cords. When you hook up the cords as the mfg.explains with tenison, it pulls the pipe into the Rv side. This can cause vibration.

August 20, 2010
I've used this product for over 5 years - I go to alot of NASCAR races and the sites are very close - I've had fellow campers make comments their generators make more noise than mine and mine is right next to their door. It also gets the fumes up and away from under the RV and away from neighbors. I didn't want to secure the straps which hold the exhaust system against the RV so I bought some car dent pullers (small suction cups) and I attach the straps to the suction cups. I can remove them from the RV when I'm not using and only place them on the RV when I need them. Again great product.

We winter in an area where ice storms can take out the power for long periods. We set up the Gen-turi when we arrive and leave it up for the 4 months we are here in the foot hills of the Cascades in SW Oregon. We have reduced noise in the coach and no fear of carbon monoxide gas (our generator is below our kitchen window). Very quick to install and easy to set up. Herb and Ardy

Making my wife happy by not gassing out the neighbors

March 07, 2009
An excellent product. Works well, easy to install and store. Our Hydro-hot exhaust is in the center of the RV so the smoke and smell go directly at the door of many MH neighbors. We also cannot leave the windows open as the diesel smell comes in. So this exhaust is the answer. Could have built one for less money but the hassle!! For us the height is not quite right so we have ordered an 18'' extension from the manufacture. Don't know why CW doesn't stock them. Would be a nice extra to sell. I'd guess 8 out of 10 buyers would purchase the extension either right at the time of purchase or would come back and buy it later. To make this work I purchased a grinding wheel for my drill to open up the exhaust of the HH just a little. It didn't take 10 minutes to do that. Also opened up the generator exhaust as it too was slightly too small. That took about 20 minutes, a bit more grinding needed. Also need to attach the eye hooks which I have not done yet. It's probably a 30-40 minute job. This first time out, I used suction cups for attaching the two straps to steady the vent. So now we can use the Gen-Turi on either the HH (which will be the majority of the time) or the generator. I suspect in the future I will purchase a second Gen-Turi so I don't have to move them back and forth. Need some time to see just how often that situation presents it's self.

Nascar fans, be a good neighbor!!

February 24, 2009
The Gen-turi Exhaust system is one of the best RV accessories that I've purchased. I have a Diesel generator in the front of our motor home , even though it is on the opposite side of the entry door , we used to often get a bit of the exhaust smell when the wind shifts. We purchased the Gen-turi about 5 years ago . I was hesitant to drill 4 little holes in our new $200,000 "vacation home", but I did. applied sealer to the anchors, added the exhaust pipe adapter, exhaust system was ready to go to work in less than an hour. We use the generator alot! when ever we "dry camp" . The Nascar races is the best example, the generator runs all day long and we don't smell a thing neither do the RVs near us. As far as the noise reduction, I can't tell a difference, the generator is very quiet already. Our generator is an "ONAN 7500"; with over 950 hours on it , most of which the Gen-turi was used. Our Last couple trips to Canyon Creek RV Park, Ca. I had Attached an External Cell phone repeater amplifier antenna (No cell service in this park without an amplifier) to the Gen-turi exhaust system because I needed to attach 14 feet of pcv pipe (my antenna mast) to something. It held up like a champ in the heavy winds and rains. Close inspection found the gen-turi exhaust system still in great like new condition , except for the exhaust soot on the inside of the pipe acumulated from years of use. I thought I could build one (being an Automotive mechanic) but after seeing several failed prototypes at the race track , I bought one , and never regreted it. Love thy Neighbor , get a Gen-turi exhaust system .

For anyone with a season parking pass to football games or other events where RVs are packed tightly together and hours are spent tailgating, this device makes the experience much more enjoyable. I have recommended it to the organizing entity, who will pass the info along to my tailgating neighbors when their parking passes are distributed. You do have to check on it occasionally as mine has fallen down a couple times...not the most solid of installations... but satisfactory given the temporary nature of the application.

WREX thinks the Gen-turi is great

35 out of 68 people found this review helpful.
June 14, 2008
Actually, the Gen-turi works just as expected: Depending on the height of your exhaust connect point, most units should add the 18 extension, which is available at CAMCO's website (you CAN order it there) to ensure proper venting above the roofline. I also use the Gen-turi to vent the exhaust from my tankless hot water system (I had a muffler shop 'stretch' me a fitting FOR FREE!). I did mount u-hooks on the coach side to stabilize the unit and, so long as you properly seal them, they work perfectly. (Those who are afraid to put a few screws in the side wall should remember their awnings, etc. are mounted with screws...)

Don't burn out your motor

March 26, 2008
The exhaust tube extention must be the same diameter or larger then the tailpipe coming off your generator. If you install a narrower diameter exaust pipe on your generator you will cause enging back pressure and burn down the generators engine. A rain cap would be nice too.

It is a good kit, only thing is the 1 5/8 adapter is expensive. You can go to TSC or a reputable muffler dealer and get a adapter for a reasonable price. Last one I had to get was $4.99 plus tax. Hope this helps. It should be a cheap option anyway.

Great idea, but needs another 18 extention

November 04, 2007
Good piece of equipment. I use it a lot. The pipe however only extents to the roof level, and sometimes the exhaust gets caught up in the fan intake if the wind is right. Needs another 18 extension to get the exhaust higher. The CAMCO website advertises an 18 extension, but you cannot order from the website and no one carries it. IT SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN THE ORIGINAL PACKAGING. It would then be a 5 star item.

I have used this four or five times and it does route the exhaust upwards. The one gripe I have is that in rainy situations it leaves black marks on the side of the motorhome due to rain/diesel exhaust mix deposits. Maybe it needs some form of residue catch mechanism on the top? ..Dave

Gen-turi requires expensive adapter

755 out of 1221 people found this review helpful.
August 02, 2007
The Gen-turi package does not include a 1 5/8 adapter to connect the generator exhaust to the Gen-turi. Unfortunately, my 8kW generator exhaust requires this adapter. The cost of this adapter is almost 25% of the total cost of the original Gen-turi. Before you purchase the Gen-turi, check your generator exhaust diameter! If it is greater than the 1 1/4, you will need to purchase this expensive adapter. Plus, this adapter is very difficult to find. Also, it requires you drill holes in the side of your RV to install a couple of eye bolts. I am going to try to use suction cups to stabilize the unit. I don't want to drill holes into the side of my motorhome. This product is a nice idea, but check to see if you will need this expensive adapter and think about drilling holes in the side of your RV.

I am not sure about the noise level reduction while using this. I do have a sound meter but I have not tested this yet. It definitely moves the exhaust above the rig where it has a better opportunity to pick up some breezes and dissipate without gagging the people around you. For that reason alone I think it is worth purchasing. For people that sleep with a generator running, not recommended but I would do it, I would not use the generator without this during the night.

We love it! Before we had this, we could not sleep through the night without the carbon monoxide detectors going off after a few hours of running our generator. I know many who disconnect their detectors, because of this, and I think this is very risky. The exhaust system is easy to install, helps reduce noise, and most importantly keeps deadly fumes out of our RV and others too. I am so glad we purchased this and wish all RV owners would get one. I highly recommend it!

We had a problem with generator fumes entering the motorhome, it was so bad it would actually set off the Co sensor. Installing the Genturi took care of that problem and as an added bonus, no more fumes permeate our campsite as well. Easy to install and take down and stores in its own duffle type bag. I attempted to make one, after a few tries it proved to be fruitless. Instead of drilling the side of the MH for the support brackets, i was able to support the tube with a bungie cord hooking it onto the bay. (the large PVC tube does not get that hot).

We go to many NASCAR races and park around other coaches. Most of the time it is dry camping and we rely on our generator. The units taht park next to use really like the idea they don't have deisel fumes to deal with. The unit was easy to install and stores easily in a side compartment.

Safe and quiet dry camping

I have used the Gen-turi for three years now at NASCAR events and overnighting at rest area and truck stops. At all of these areas you can be packed in pretty tight. The Gen-turi reduces generator exhaust noise and vents the fumes above the roof line. This is great for peace of mind to know that your family can sleep without worry. Installation is a breeze and it is very lightweight. Comes with storage/carry bag. When you use your Gen-turi you will wish the rig next to you had one too!

Gen-turi Generator Exhaust

I installed the Gen-turi generator exhaust in less than 1 hour. 4 small screws secure the top (not suction cups as mentioned in earlier reviews) and the bottom clamped to my generator exhaust with the adapters provided. I no longer smell any exhaust inside or outside my RV no matter which way the wind is blowing, or if the wind is not blowing at all. The noise reduction was noticeable, but not dramatic.

THIS OLDER DESIGN HAD SOME PROBLEMS WITH THE PIPE BREAKING FREE FROM THE CURVED METAL TIP AT THE BOTTOM...NOT A BIG PROBLEM BECAUSE THE COMPANY REPLACED BOTH TIMES WITH NO QUESTIONS ASKED...THEY STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCT...THE NEW DESIGN HAS A ROCK-SOLID CONNECTION.....GREAT PIPE, DECREASES GENERATOR SOUND AND DIVERTS ALL THE FUMES ABOVE THE ROOF...I ONLY WISH THAT EVERYONE HAD ONE OF THESE.....YOU KNOW WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT IF YOU HAVE EVER DRY-CAMPED NEXT TO SOMEONE WHO DOESN'T HAVE ONE AND THEIR EXHAUST VENTS ON THE SIDE OF YOUR AWNING.....IT IS ALSO A SNAP TO INSTALL.....THE ELBOW CONNECTOR SECURES ON WITH AN ENCLOSED COLLAR WHICH HAS 2 NUTS TO TIGHTEN AND ONCE YOU HAVE THE PIPE LEVEL AND YOU SCREW 4 SMALL SCREWS THROUGH THE SMALL EYEHOOKS....ALOT EASIER IF SOMEONE HELPS HOLD THE PIPE IN PLACE/LEVEL WHILE YOU DETERMINE THE EYEHOOK LOCATIONS.....GREAT PIPE!!!
