    Best GPS I have had

Many years of using a GPS finally resulted in one geared towards the RV world. It is not perfect, but it is close. The large screen and heavy duty cables are a huge plus; Not sure about the value of the Traffic advisories, but it could be my area. It may not always plot the shortest route but in retrospect each trip was a safe one, and that is what counts. The unit is heavy for that windshield suction cup mount and on some sunny days it can drop on you - get the dash mount disk (1 for each vehicle). I have recommended this to several friends, even non-RVers and they like it. I bought on sale so consider this a great buy.

Ideal product to use in the RV. By a little experimentation we were able to discover many useful features for the RV travel. We like the 7 screen and map detail. We had to enter the speed, did not pick it up from the map. Went to download the latest maps and updates, found it had the latest maps.

Easy to use and the 7 screen resolution is excellent. Why though are truck stop locations such as Pilot/Flying J (etc) not already loaded into the unit? Personally, when I'm towing, I only stop at truck stops for fuel.

Being a long-time GPS user, I feel that this unit is about average in the number of screw- ups, no worse (but different) from others. The big plus is that it recognizes that I am driving an RV, not a car. The trip planning software using Good Sam and Rand McNally Dock puts this unit over the top. Finally trip planning is intuitive and very user friendly. The included details plus customization options makes this a best-buy for the RV'er.

Unit has many great features but on my first trip it directed me to an exit from our gated community that is restricted to residents only. While I have access the public does not which could lead to a U turn on a two lane road, no picnic in a large class A.

I like this GPS, big screen, ease of use, etc. but found that many, many posted speed limits are different than the GPS displays. The map program needs to be updated more often with correct speed limits if users are traveling long distances and depending on this device to be accurate. We just traveled through 6 states in the south east U.S. and found the speed limits on GPS were wrong frequently.

I use this unit in my 38 ft Newmar. The unit is easy to use and has many features that are very helpful. It does what is expected of a unit of this price. I did check the routing capabilities of known routes. In some instances my routes were shorter, however I tribute these to route preferences programmed during setup. Highly recommend.

I just purchased this unit in Florida. I used it on the way home to Md., out of the box with the pre programmed mapping. It held true to everything except a few speed limit differences where speeds had recently changed. I didn't use this while towing my Fifth Wheel. The screen is large, bright and friendly, at least for us.

I haven't used it yet on a drives but have played with it some and it does everything it's supposed to do and more. It does take some time getting use to the functions and what they all do since there is so many items. I will be using it to drive across country this summer and already have my route done which I did while playing with GPS.

After a bit of getting used to, the unit is easy to understand and navigate through the screens. It alarms you of upcoming turns well in advance. It's easy to add your special locations. Over all I have had a good experience with the unit.

Love this GPS unit, works great and the exportable fuel log is just the icing on the cake. Had it now for a year and used it over 14k miles, over all it works great - the only thing is the Road Antenna is not worth it :( definitely would recommend this unit.

We've always used a program on our computer before (Streets and Trips, DeLorme, CoPilot) so this is the first GPS unit we've used, intending to use it in the car (no navigation) as well as the MH. Docking it to the computer to program was easy. Have only used it in the car so far and it is fine, preferring the male voice as it seems easier to understand. Happy so far but will need to purchase the hood so it is easier to see in the car.

    What I needed

Big screen is nice and appears to be filled with great RV applications. I got this primarily to ensure I am not routed where my 34 foot RV with dinghy in flat tow would have an issue (low bridges that make for painful turn-arounds) and to know about RV friendly stops for fuel and food. I have been using a Magellan because it has campgrounds and AAA features. This seems to be a step or more better. The formats and features will take getting used to as they are quite different (much more information displayed on maps) than either Magellan or Garmin.

On first use of it, the device would swap between screens on it's own. Went through the troubleshooting with it connected to the computer and corrected 3 files. It seems to be ok now. I do like the extra features that I didn't have with my TomTom that are camper related. I haven't tried the live services yet but will. Size makes it easy to read. Don't like when you get to destination that it stops tracking. I go past a location and have to re enter the destination if I need to track to final location.

The more we played with this unit the better we liked it, and Rand McNally tech support has turned out to be really responsive and good. We bought one of the new 5 units during their 'trade in an old unit' promotion. Darned if we don't like it better with the upgrades! The size is more convenient in our car and pickup (will continue to use the 7 when towing for the larger views.) Darned sales folks still don't include a mounting disk though. Those who had trouble with the size of the 7 really ought to give the 5 a try.

I just received this unit and I have not road tested it yet. I will shortly since I will be heading south for three month. I plugged the unit in at home and ran through some of the features. I love the 7 in screen. I reprogrammed the speed warning feature so that I would not be hearing the young ladies voice every time I exceeded 5 mph over the posted speed limit. If it performs as advertised, I will give it 5 stars.

    Superb GPS

    January 04, 2014
I purchased this GPS for my Class A RV for a trip to Arizona from Kansas. In the past, I had used my Garmin to navigate cross country trips. This GPS is exceptional in that it tells you tunnel heights, tunnels that do not allow propane to be transported through them (which my Garmin didn't tell me on my trip to the east coast where I had to pull off highways and find alternate routes for that reason), it has an unbelievable number of POIs, and the features that help with trip planning are many. When I was asked to review this, the price had gone down from what I paid for it. Camping World is sending me a gift card in the amount difference! Talk about great customer service! I will say I tried using it in my Infinti and the screen took up a lot of the windshield. I would recommend measuring it against your vehicle windshield if you are planning on using it in your car as well as your RV. I couldn't be happier with my purchase!

I purchased this gps unit along with a Voyager back up camera. I thought it would work as a monitor for the camera. However after reading the owners manual, I found no mention of using it with a camera. I asked a couple people at CW and they said they were not sure, and would have to check it out. I took the unit out to the RV to see how it would fit on the windshield. Then it became clear that it would be too large for the RV. It would be great in a class A RV, with a large windshield. My class c has a smaller windshield, and a 7 inch gps takes up too much window area. I decided to return the gps unit. I did not try to use the unit, so I cannot comment on it's functions. I would suggest anyone thinking of buying one of these units, cut out a 5 X 7 piece of cardboard and hold it to your windshield.

At first we had trouble getting it to boot-up at the beginning each day but ran diagnostics and now it is working great. We especially like the Virtual Dashboard and speed limit warnings. It's a little large (we have the 7) for a pickup but we found a good spot and it sure is easy to see. This is our 4th GPS in 6 years and we sure hope it lasts longer than any of the others did.

We purchased this GPS after putting up our RV for the winter but have used it for an 8 hour car trip to a first time destination. The 7 screen makes it easy to see. The volume range is good. We used the POI (point of interest) to find directions to a specific restaurant. In fact we found the controls intuitive and easy to use. We can't wait to use it on our next RV trip.

We've owned Garmin and Tom Tom units. This is the best one for RV's. Plenty of warning for sticky turns, grades, and junctions as well as intersections including roundabouts. We are not big computer folks, but are familiar with gps'; this one took some on the road work to find out how to access all the information it carries. It has been accurate over the past six months across the west (except we've not been in CA.) Our only complaint is that the RM folks choose to make us buy a dash disk rather than include the two bit item like the other reputable brands do. Kinda like buying a new car, then having to buy the tires to get it off the lot. I'm OK with having to buy a traffic or weather cable if that were important to me, but being able to mount it on the dash where the co-pilot can reach it should be as standard as the 12 volt cable - which is included. Would have given it 5 stars if all the necessary equipment were included.

Having owned a few of these units over the years, I am really pleased with this one. It is a little different in menus from the Garmin's I own but that is just a matter of learning a few new tricks. If I had to make one small tiny critisism it would be that the address search is not quite as easy to use as the Garmin. However, the other features are fantastic, easy to use and infinitly helpful when wheeling my 40 coach with 16 trailer around. I would highly recomend it to anyone with an RV who like to travel into unknown territory. It removes a lot of stress from driving into the unknown by keeping you on safe big rig routes as long as you set it up properly, which is real easy.

After three GPSs, and a lot of frustrations, it is good to finally find one that meets the needs of RVers. I love the easy access to information, the programmable warnings, all the RV information and RV specific POIs. Don't even think of getting any other GPS, the extra $$$ you spend on this one will come back to you quickly just by making the right turns and getting to your destination with the best route for your RV. A little weak on Canada, but still useable.

The voice , or speaker, could be a little more clear. At times it is difficult to hear the directions clearly. Also, when travelling a route and you pull off the interstate, the unit sometimes recalculates the route and it isn't the same as the one that was on it prior to pulling off. Don't know if this is a planned evolution or not. Other than that, the unit is easy to read, the screen size is nice and directions have been pretty reliable so far. The only place where directions seem to be off are when you are trying to navigate in a large shopping type area. It gives turn directions for streets that are not near my vehicle.

Excellent! Directions very precise, easy to set up. Directions for operation easy to follow. I am able to plan a whole trip using this device. The voice isn't quite a clear as I would like, but you get used to that. What is really useful is the RV/Auto set up. That information could save you a lot of heartache, and you are able to travel with confidence. Wouldn't have anything else for our RV.

I really like this GPS. It is easy to see and provides great info to include speed limit change warnings based on my speed. It would be nice to be able to move checklist items up or down in the order once they are input. It is nice to be able to build your own checklist but if you put something in a bad order, you have to delete other items to put it where you want and then renter the other items. Nice additional information especially having the info of state parks etc already in the system.

We bought our unit mid August, after 2 Magellans died on us. It takes a bit of practice to get used to it, but I thoroughly enjoy it. It is more user friendly than Magellan (even though I thought they were great). I am the navigator on our trips, so I get to use Sammy the most. We like the fact it will take you on the proper roads while towing a trailer (unlike Magellan), By entering your RV info, it steers you from roads or areas that you should not travel on. I especially like the fact that I can tell when my husband is speeding. I would recommend this unit to anyone looking for a good, reliable GPS unit-worth the money!!

    I like this GPS

I am a road warrior. I travel over 1000 miles per week for a sales job. I have had gps in my car for over 10 years. I am 1 million miles plus on the road with a gps. My first GPS was a Magellan. It worked for a few years then one day a customer of mine wanted to play with it and it locked up too tight to work again. I purchased a rebuilt garmin at that time and used it until now. It still works and is available if the Good Sams Magellan gives out. We are new to RV motor homes and like good sams and what they offer to campers. We purchased the Good Sam GPS to use in the motor home, but so far have only taken one trip. I am using the GPS for my weekly sales runs (1000+ miles) and it has worked very well. The menu is so different than the Garmin I owned that I sometimes need to pull over and work my way through. So far the maps are not all up to date. I might need to sync again to get them better. Also it sometimes warns of a curve on straight roads but does not warn of a curve on hairpin turns. I know the GPS is capable for hook up, but there is no documentation or guidance to hook it up. Recently I had a high time road man riding with me for training and he noticed the extra detail the screen offers in the 3d mode. It is a very nice look. It is similar to google earth. I think you will be happy with your purchase. I have not tried other new GPS models because I trust Good Sam. I hope the extra loaded menu for the RV will be helpful as we head out in our new RV.

We love the size of this GPS. However, some of the other functions not so much. I don't think it is as up to date as other GPS's. It did not have routes that were obviously there for quite awhile and that is something we were counting on for our trip. We also tried to update and apparently it is as updated as it can be. We also planned the trip based on the quickest route, it started out ok, but later she took us off the main drag and took us through many little towns that you needed to slow down in.

The new Good Sam GPS loaded with Rand McNally and other source information is well worth the investment. Curve ahead, speed alerts and other necessary information needed along the road performed well. The suction cup and mounting bracket are impossible to affix to the dashboard of my Thor Ace, and the windshield is too far away to use the touch screen icons. Therefore, I've placed the entire unit in the cup holder at my left side...not the best fix but it works.

Overall I like this GPS. The only problem I have had is that on several occasions It tried to send me down a dirt road. Dirt roads that don't have a campground on it are NOT good for motorhomes. I would recommend this unit to those traveling in an RV. Just as with any GPS unit, a map is still a good thing to have as back-up.

This unit is great for RV specific needs on the road, like weight limits, height restrictions, and finding camp grounds. For these reasons, I would recommend it to any RV owner. It does have issues that the user will have to learn to deal with. When you get off the given route to get food or fuel, the unit will recalculate and will often find a different route, sometimes longer than the original one. Remember where you were going and get on that route, the unit will eventually pick up again. When traveling and finding camp sites for future stays, the distance to the camp site is line of sight, not travel distance. You will have to use Google to find a travel distance and then use the GPS to find a campsite near the travel distance. Doable, but a pain.

number of lockups and reset to get started called tech service and they helped to some degree. Appears to me it takes a while to figure out location and sync. once this happens have only had to reset once and that was an operator error.

    It has a glitch

I bought the product this summer and love it for what it does. That said, here is the glitch: Every day when I turn on my Mac, the software updates itself. Apparently, the update function is tied to the startup of the computer. It has added several minutes to the startup of my computer and there seems to be nothing I can do about it. It used to come up very quickly and I was checking my email or whatever else I needed to do quickly. This RNDDock software takes right over and prevents you from doing anything until it is finished. It literally stalls the computer until the software updates. Is there anyone out there who knows a way around this problem. It is very frustrating and I wish I had never installed the software.

    Good Sam RVND 725LM

I have used GPS units in the air and on the ground for several years. I currently have a Garmin Nuvi but wanted something more RV specific so I purchased the Rand McNally Good Sam unit. So far I'm impressed with the quality of this unit, its functionality and how easy it is to use. There is a learning curve as with any GPS unit but once you start using it you will find it doesn't take long to figure it out. The touch screen does miss an input occasionally as stated by another poster but my Garmin's touch screen is much worse in this respect.

    Works well to a point

I ordered this GPS rather than the Garmin. I had wanted the Garmin originally because I have had them for years now and I am familiar with their format. The Good Sam GPS does everything they say it does and does it well. It is easy to input all of your RV information and all of your preferences. As with anything new it takes a little playing with it to totally understand how it works and I think I have it figured out. My only complaint is the screen doesn't always work when you touch it. There are too many times it doesn't recognize a letter that you touch so if you are not paying attention your address or search is missing a letter in the middle that must be corrected and this happens quite often. I had considered asking if I could exchange it but I have already added information on the maintenance area and also added some checklists, which are very handy BTW. I would not shy away from this GPS unit at all. One thing I would like to have seen was for it to get its information like weather and traffic from the satellite or another source instead of having to hook it up to the computer for the internet every day or having some wifi device where you can create a hot spot from so it can access the information itself on the internet. If there was another method they had in mind for that I have not figured that out. It does a very good job finding most campsites. As with any GPS it is not perfect or infallible. I plan to put it to a bigger test in the next few months as I intend to use it locally for awhile so that I can see how accurate it is and so I can learn to use it.

Why didn't we buy this sooner!!!

We have never used a GPS before except on a smartphone. When we decided to take a 3000 mile trip in our RV we decided to purchase a GPS. We are so glad we did. Having the peace of mind of routing that was Class A RV friendly and then being able to use it in our tow car to sight see was great ( just change the setting from RV to car). We were in Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons and the elevation setting was fun to keep track of how high we were climbing. Loved the POI information and finding gas stations and campgrounds was a big bonus. It was easy to use and the extra features like the lists and fuel and maintenance logs are fantastic. Great product and we have already sold several of our family members and friends that RV, on this product as well. I would recommend this to anyone who is looking for a GPS.

I bought this about a month ago but waited to review until we took our trip to Vermont. I looked and looked for a replacement for the GPS that died on me. I was concerned about the price, but I'm glad I bought it. It was spot on with directions. The Curve warnings and change of speed limits was very helpful. It has a ETA (estimated time of arrival) which was nice it shows how many miles left to go and what time you will get there. The POI was very helpful when we were in Vt. to find things to do. I would recommend this to anyone very easy to use.

Needing a new gps we reviewed the possibilities and decided to grit our teeth and spring for the Good Sam gps. Having used it for about 6 months, both in the US and Canada, we find it perfectly suited to our needs. It is easy to use although not quite as intuitive as it could be, has many useful options, provides reasonably good routing and doesn't annoy you with RECALCULATING when you choose to ignore its instructions - it just quietly goes about calculating a new route. The unit is well made and should last many years. The only complaints are: 1) It can only be mounted on a smooth surface, which means the windshield since most dashes are too rough; 2) The instruction manual does not mention that you have to download the Rand McNally Support Dock software(http://www.randmcnally.com/support/s/dock-software) in order to get map updates and send feedback; 3) A larger choice of voices would be appreciated.

    Best RV GPS

I have had several GPS units that were said to be made for RVing. This is by far the best I have owned. It is very rugged and relativly easy to use. All GPS designers need to continue to improve them for ease of use while driving. Perhaps some day voice activation will be available like hands free dialing.

Easy to use and accurate routing information in RV mode and car mode. Includes everything needed to operate, including wall charger, mobile charger, USB cable, suction cup mount. There's just about ZERO learning curve for this device. It's designed so well you can easily learn it in just a few minutes. Starts up relatively slowly (my only real complaint about the device), but locks onto satellites quickly. Works great when mounted to the windshield of our Class C motorhome. We were a little concerned about limited view of the sky because of the bunk over the cab, but this thing apparently sees enough of the sky to be very accurate. Route directions have been spot on so far, and mile markers and speed limit signs on-screen change at the precise moment we pass them on the highway. Very cool! All relevant information is at your fingertips. POI (point of interest) feature is super helpful, especially if you're looking for a campground, gas station, etc. A GPS device could not possibly be any easier to use, which makes it not only helpful but fun to use as well.

Does everything the other reviewers said. The one thing that I do not like is it nags me all the time. Any time you go 5 mph above the speed limit, it says SPEED WARNING. So I set my cruise control to 65 (the speed limit). I am pulling a 4500 lb trailer. Up and down hills - SPEED WARNING SPEED WARNING SPEED WARNING. Very irritating. I could not find where to turn the warning stuff off.

Great GPS - Don't think just buy it

I have had about 4 different GPS systems and used them all over. They all have different features but for RV’ing this is GREAT and I have put all my other GPS’s in a box. Love the ability to add POI and also great screen size. The Quick Points feature to identify everything we have ever looked for in the area we were at. The fuel stops by Flying J and Pilot were easy to find along with any others we looked for. We easily learned how to do Multi-Point stops and side trips. The map screen shows both speed limit (it truly amazes me how it always changes the speed limit on the screen instantly when a new speed limit sign goes by) and my speed and my wife loves the Speed warnings. ? I would and will recommend this unit to anyone thinking of purchasing a new GPS system. The only issue was connection my backup camera but once I found Diesel boss site they had a $10 adapter and it connected without problems. (GPS camera video cable, 2.5mm to RCA female for Rand McNally by Dieselboss on Amazon) So if you are thinking about a GPS by this one.

I bought mine a month ago, and it works well with a few quirks. First, pressing buttons are not always sensitive enough. I sometimes have to push screen several times to sence pressing screen actions, but they do work. Second, it has a place for adding fuel fillups and can be an asset, however, no plave to enter your mileage to give a calculated mpg for a trip. It calculates usage just fine for each month, but need to update with a fuel economy calculator on records. Overall, my wife loves it as is easy to see and read while traveling. Please consider updating software.

This GPS just took us to Florida from New Hampshire. It used a New York, Penn, route that was the same distance as sending us down NYC and NJ. Total tolls were $4.00. New country we had never seen before. It always managed to find the points of interest we wanted. The Quick Points feature to identified the Walmarts we used instead of camp sites. The fuel stops by Flying J and Pilot were easy to find. We easily learned how to do Multi-Point stops and side trips. I loved the dash board feature. The map screen shows both speed limit and my speed. I use cruise control at 5 miles below most of the time but don't on hilly areas and got lots of warnings I was over speed. I love that feature. There is only one time when the road had a speed limit that didn't match the GPS. If you want to use it in the dingy, you can switch it to car mode and it follows car routes and rules instead of RV routes and rules. Best buy in the market.

This is the best GPS I have owned. So far it has not skipped a beat. It has so far given us the best routes out there. Once you input your personal info. about your rig it sends you on the correct course. Has plenty of additional info for your trip. Diesel fuel, restaurants, camping areas and so forth. Very large screen and easy to read.

Best GPS on market for RV

Fantastic and exciting to use. I bought and returned every RV Magellan with a 7 screen. The Rand McNally 7720 I bought and returned just didn't work right. To many things not as expected. This 7725 (branded as Good Sam) is everything you would want it to be. The speed sign changes just as you go by the one on the road. The voice repeats warning and instructions (I prefer the man voice for clarity). It can be muted or made loud enough to override cabin conversations. Warns of speed changes (I love this). Shows your speed and posted speed. Warns me if I'm 5 miles over. (I love this too). I prefer to drive 5 miles below posted so I monitor the GPS more than my odometer. I prefer it high on windshield in my Class C which means it is out of my normal view of road but close enough to look at GPS and road safely. Also easier to read and control. There is a lot of useful info around the screen that I refer to often. The large screen helps with this. As with any other GPS you need to have an idea of where you are going so the GPS will not route you in a round-about direction when you change directions from recommended route. This one does not say recalculating which I would like to see as an off/on feature. The mounting system is very well designed. GPS easy to slide off bracket so I can hold it for programming. There is a dashboard feature that shows up if you press your speed icon. This has your trip summary. Nice to have. When I spend this kind of money I don't want to find fault with it's features or way it operates. I don't mind spending money for something that makes my hobby fun. This particular GPS is a must have tool for an RV. DO NOT buy a different one because it's cheaper. I have already learned all those mistakes.
