The Companion's built-in 30-amp receptacle makes it easy to connect to a standard EU2000i model with simple parallel cables for power to run rooftop RV air conditioners and more.
Exclusive Honda inverter technology produces steady power to run electronics and appliances and to charge automotive-type batteries. Features fuel-efficient 4-stroke air-cooled overhead valve engine, recoil auto start and spark arrester/muffler.

  • Power for microwave, refrigerators, hair dryer, small AC units, and much more

This popular model can operate a wide variety of appliances, making it perfect for portable use at home, camping, on the jobsite, or much more.

  • Super quiet - less noise than normal conversation

So quiet, your neighbors will thank you. The EU2000i operates at 53 to 59 dBA, which is less noise than a normal conversation. This makes it ideal for camping, supplemental RV power and any other activity that requires quiet operation.

  • Lightweight and compact

Weighing less than 47 pounds, the EU2000 is incredibly lightweight and portable, thanks to Honda's inverter technology.

  • Fuel efficient - runs up to 9.6 hrs on 1.1 gal. of fuel

Thanks to our exclusive Eco-Throttle System, the EU2000i offers great fuel efficiency. Runs 4.0 to 9.6 hours on a single tank, depending on the load. This makes it great for overnight power.

  • Advanced inverter technology - reliable power for computers and other sensitive equipment

Honda's inverter technology means stable, clean power in a smaller, lighter package. The precision of Honda's inverter technology ensures our inverter generators produce power that is as reliable as the power you get from your outlets at home.

  • Double your power with parallel capability

Need more power? Add a second EU2000i for additional power. Two identical models can be paralleled with an optional cable or cord for up to 4000 watts of power.

  • Protected by Oil Alert:

Protects the generator by shutting the engine off when low oil is detected.

  • USDA-qualified spark arrestor/muffler

  • Circuit protected

Protects the generator from being overloaded.

Welcome to the Honda Power Equipment video on how to unpack, and set up your new EU1000i, or EU2000i Honda generator. The EU1000i weighs approximately 29 pounds, and the EU2000i weighs approximately 46 pounds.

Here is a list of items you will need to set up your new Honda generator. A clean gas can with fresh gasoline, a quart of SAE 10W-30 motor oil, a small funnel, some rags to wipe up any spills, and a flat tip screwdriver. Read the owner's manual to learn how to use your generator safely, and take full advantage of its features.

Lift the generator out of the box, and place it on a level surface. Every Honda generator is started and tested before it leaves the factory. After testing, the gas and oil are drained prior to shipping. Finding a small amount of residual oil or gasoline is normal.

Honda recommends using Honda genuine parts for all Honda products. Remove the maintenance cover and dipstick. Use a small funnel to add 10W-30 oil to bring the oil level to the upper limit of the oil filler neck. When the oil begins to run out of the filler neck, the oil level is correct. Reinstall the dipstick, wipe up any spilled oil, and reinstall the maintenance cover.

Now you can remove the yellow warning tag on the starter grip. Warning, gasoline is very flammable and the fumes are explosive. You can be burned or seriously injured when refueling. Always refuel your generator in a well-ventilated area with the generator stopped, and away from any source of flames or sparks. Fill the fuel tank to the bottom of the red fuel gauge with fresh gasoline from a clean container. Do not overfill the fuel tank. Tighten the fuel cap until it clicks, and wipe up any spills before you start the generator. If you have an EU1000i, the fuel cap will not click when tightened. Do not use E85 or any fuel containing more than 10% ethanol.

Before starting your generator, be aware that engines emit poisonous carbon monoxide, a colorless, odorless gas that you cannot see or smell. Carbon monoxide gas can rapidly build up to dangerous levels in enclosed or partly enclosed areas, and seriously injure or kill you. Whenever you run your generator, make sure it is located outside, far away from any doors or windows.

To start the generator, turn the choke on, open the fuel tank vent, make sure the ECO throttle switch is off, and turn the engine switch on. Lightly pull the starter grip until you feel resistance, and then pull briskly away from the generator. Several pulls on the starter grip may be required to start this generator the first time, or any time it runs out of gas. After the generator starts, open the choke. Allow the generator to run for two or three minutes before connecting any appliances to it. Turn off or disconnect any appliances before turning off the generator.

To stop the generator, simply turn the engine switch off. This concludes the video of how to unpack and set up your EU1000i or EU2000i Honda generator. Refer to the owner's manual for more detail on the processes shown in this video.

Tech Notes: Like other Honda EU2000i models, the EU2000i Companion utilizes Honda's "state of the art" inverter technology to provide 2000 watts of lightweight, quiet and efficient power. This generator will run up to 15 hours on a single tank of gas when used with the Eco-Throttle feature. This easy starting generator produces only 59dB of sound with a full load. Honda Inverter Technology makes this generator ideally suited for use with sensitive electronics (e.g., computer, fax, printer, telephone and stereo) because the generator produces a clean sine wave of energy that prevents surging. To prevent any possible damage to the unit, the Oil Alert will shut the unit off when the oil level drops below a safe operating level. The available power is commonly used for the following typical electric devices:

  • Full Size Microwave Ovens
  • Larger Power Tools i.e. circular saw
  • Resistive Load Kitchen Appliances (i.e. Coffee Maker, Toaster, small a/c units etc).

Two like EU series generators can be linked in parallel to increase available wattage through the generator outlets.

    EU2000i Companion

We started out with a regular EU2000i and found on our travel trailer, that although it would start the 13500 btu AC unit, when it went to cycle, it would draw too much and fault the gen. out. We purchased the Companion to go with the original, and can run in parrallel with both gen. in Eco mode, for about 10 hr. of run time on a tank of gas. Runs everything in our trailer with no problems. 4 out of 5 stars due to unit costs, but sometimes you get what you pay for.

This is my first generator I've ever bought and have no regrets. It provided the necessary power while dry camping , with little noise, and easy to start. The saleslady at Camping World in Anthony, TX was very helpful and answered all my questions.

    Clean Power for Sensitive Equipment

I use one or a pair of the EU2000i generators for a radio command center (trailer) outfitted with a half-dozen two-way radios, terminal node controllers, power antennas, WiFi amplifiers, link radios, computers, and other electrically sensitive equipment. Last week we ran 41 hours straight with everything humming and without a glitch. Clean power is essential -- and we have plenty of it with these generators. Using two generators is also more efficient for us. We fire up one generator when we don't need heat or A/C, or are otherwise using less power. But when we need the juice, a second unit can be brought online easily. Easy to start, long running (we typically get 9+ hours on a tank of gas) and easy to service in the field (oil changes every 100 hours) makes these units a prize.

Paralleled the EU2000i companion with my EU3000i

    July 21, 2010
Our 1st trip in our new 5th wheel last weeken. Sadly, I did not test run the AC with my old Honda EU3000i. Hey, it ran the AC in the old RV? It was hot out. Over 100, and we stoped in a Walmart parking lot for the night on the way to the race track. No go for the AC. The next day, we went shopping for a new generator. Sams club, Costco, Home Depot. No luck on a quit gen. Off we went to the motorcycle shop to get a new EU3000i to Parallel with the old one. The sales guy was understanding to me not wanting to spend $2000 for a sec gen, or $2200 on two EU2000is. He told me that even though Honda does not recomend it, he himself, and knows of a few others that have bought the EU2000i companion and the Parallel Kit, used it with their EU3000i and had no truble. So I gave it a go and it worked like a champ. Ran all weekend with out any problems. You do have to plug in to the 2000i companion with the RV though. The EU2000i is working harder, has a snaller fuel tank, and runs out of fuel in 3 to 4 hrs, and the EU3000i is good for about 8hrs. I did not know the 2000i was out of fuel, because the onces the AC was running, the 3000i would keep it running by its self. I think I will get one of the auto fill cans for the 2000i though. That will be for the next trip.

I have had a Honda 2000 for 8 years. It has never failed us. We decided to get a companion so we could run our A/C unit. If this one is as great as the old one we will be very happy.

    Good and reliable

I purchased this generator three years ago. I have used it camping of course, dose the job well but not enough kick to fire up the AC unit. Also used for my home when we had power outages. Always worked well. Reason for 4 stars and not 5 is that it usually takes 4, or 5 or more pulls to start it. I always use stabilizer in the gasoline for those who may think the gas may be getting stale as the reason for the hard starting. Good and reliable source of power, very quiet (important when camping) and a fuel miser. Runs for hours on a gallon of gas.

A must have when A/C is needed

We bought this companion generator to go along with our other 2000iA for the purpose of firing up the A/C in our trailer when we were camping in a no hook-up site and the temps were above 100. We used the parallel kit and had no problems. Even with the two generators going we still did not have to raise our voices to be heard when we were outside. We asked our neighbors if the noise bothered them and they said while they could hear it, it wasn't bothersome. Good deal from Camping World also.

We love it. We hook it up in parallel with our other Honda and it powers our entire 5th wheel. They are so very much quieter than our 4000 W. Onan generator. Camping is a lot more Natural with these generators.

We bought this as a comapnion for our EU2000. It was the best price we had seen, or could find at the time. We have not used this generator, but feel that we will be happy with it, as we have been very pleased with the other Honda products we own.

    Best Generator

    March 28, 2014
I've used this generator to charge my RV batteries, to power lights at my wife's outdoor boutique, to run my home refrigerator when our power was out for 12 hours, and to use to power a snack stand at our son's football practice. I'm amazed at the little gas it uses. It's fairly quite, easy to start, and easy to service. It's also very easy to winterize as there's even a tube connected to the carburetor and with one turn of a drain screw, drains the fuel from the carburetor out the bottom of the generator through the tube.

12 volt charging cord does not fit

0 out of 0 people found this review helpful.
    October 13, 2015
4 stars for an otherwise 5 star time. This is a warning, the 12 volt charging cord sold as comparable with 1000 - 3000 watt generators does not fit. Camping World did their best to contact Honda America while I waited on hold but Honda was no help. Camping world credited the unit. Can't say enough about Camping Worlds outstanding service and integrity. Make sure you open the vent on the gas cap. If you don't it will starve the generator of fuel. It really does seal.
Pros: Quiet, Easy to Use, Reliable, Price

What you really need to know

    February 14, 2016
So I own both this unit and the original EU2000i. These units are great as a reliable power source. They provide an outstanding quality energy wave better than what you would get from your local power supplier at you home. Now for the care of feeding the units. This is a small engine with small parts that need special care. I have purchased several over the years and fixed them as most people fail to properly service and maintain them. You must use fuel additives. All the current fuel has ethanol, unless you are lucky enough to find the very rare ETOH free stuff. This means you have to us the ethanol treatment. I use Sta-bil Marine treatment and have never had an issue. You must drain the fuel from the carbs when not in use. Even with treatment you will still get some varnish in the carbs if you leave fuel in the bowl. This is super easy needing only a small flathead screwdriver to the drain at the bottom of the carb. If you do this and treat the fuel it will last for years. I am on four years with no problems. Yes by draining the fuel you will have to pull a couple of times to "recharge" the carbs, but I have never pulled more than 3 times to start even yesterday on one of the coldest days of the year ( 5* F). I have run the units for 6 continuous days in the summer with no concerns and powered a 30 amp RV with 13500 BTU AC, three kids, four computers and every system. Yes I did add fuel every 8 hours just to make sure they never ran out of fuel. They are expensive but I have used the Yamaha system and found it did not put out the quality and reliable power these Hondas did. Always remember maintenance is your best friend and be scheduled and consistent!
Pros: Quiet, Easy to Use, Light Weight, High Quality
    Cons: Expensive
