    Not for big rigs

I have a 36' class A diesel. The receiver had a problem maintaining the link with the sensors on the rear wheels. I ordered the free antenna extension from Hopkins, but this made no difference. Hopkins sells a signal booster for this unit, but I ended up selling the unit as I became too frustrated and I did not want to spend more money on trying to make it work.

I installed without reading instruction. Once installed worked great. I set up 3 different configuration and they all work great. I have a 31' class C and tow trailer or car. All sensor work without an issue. I did have one of the sensors go bad. I used one of the ones for the car and reprogrammed that one sensor and was on the road in ten minutes.

    Breaking Valve Stems

WARNING Owners of Jeep Grand Cherokees with Aluminum Valve Stems! When removing the Sensors from the valve stem to add air, the valve stems will break! I have broken two, the valve core then comes out letting the air out of the tire and you have a flat. The replacement valve stems can only be purchased at Jeep and cost $55.00 each. A tire or car dealer has to install from inside the tire. I recommend not using the sensors with aluminum valve stems.

Hopkins is not up to speed

I have a 32 foot motorhome and, as others have said, I continually lose the link and it goes into alarm. Another annoyance is the pressure reading are different than my 2 gauges. Hopkins readings are not accurate so I have to write down the reading to see any change that I think is significant. Bad. Last the front modules will not fit on through the hubcaps, so I have to remove the hubcap and place them on, then put the hubcap on. This also takes away the option of removing them without removing the hubcap. Hassle. Bottom line is they cause more anxiety than they cure. Inaccurate and range is very iffy. Zero stars if I could

Do NOT Buy this product!! (Unless you have money to waste)

I purchased this product during the winter of 2009. Thinking I would be installing it as soon as spring arrived. I did just that but as of yet have not gotten it to work. This is Aug. 10! In calling the company they told me I would need to purchase a repeater, no mention of another antenna as some others have indicated probably because it has been longer than the return allowable date! I am just sick! Over $400 and I can not even turn it on! I get it set, 15-20 minutes, and when I reach my location, move my tow vehicle, shut it off as it makes a noise that there is a missing link, turn it back on when I hook up again and the first tire will show as no reading. Soon after it starts to beep again or reprogram....another 15-20 minutes and the process starts all over. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT...I WISH I NEVER HAD!!

I have a 40' bus with a 26' trailer and I purchased the product to ease the stress of tire problems mostly with the trailer. When we first installed it we had problems with the sensors reading correctly. One on the trailer read 118 lbs when it had 65 lbs and another I could remove and received no warning. After we started traveling the sensors came and went, mostly went. I called the 1800 # and they sent me an extension for the antenna at no charge. If I held it out the window on the side if the tire when programing I could receive the sensor. As soon as I went to the other side I lost it. I called again and they said to set it up in the center of the coach which helped nothing. I called again and they assured me that if I purchased an $89.00 repeater it would work. I have already spent $630.00 and hours of time. I am taking the product back, purchasing 2 spare tires and a six pack with the money...... That should fix the stress.

    Blowout Issue

1 out of 2 people found this review helpful.
    July 10, 2009
Since purchasing the unit we have had reception problems with the sensors. We have received an antenna extention from Hopkins (free). With the antenna extention we have to move the base unit back in the RV to get reception from the sensors on our tow dolley. I have talked to Hopkins and now I am told that I will have to purchase a repeater for the unit to work correctly. This makes it very hard to monitor the unit. With these circumstances we were recently on a trip and had a blowout without any warning of a problem with the tire. When I inspected the the pressure sensor, it had a knot prutruding out on one side.

    GLAD I GOT IT!!!!!!!!!!!

Installed the system on an '08 chevy silverado, crew cab, 1-ton, big dually. Pulling a 40' Grand Junction 5th wheeler with tandem axles. Returning from the beach in Gulf Shores, AL. While on I-10 doing about 65 mph. I heard a pop. I looked in my mirrors and didn't see or feel anything, so I continued on. About 30 sec. Later the monitor started flashing red and beeping. I was able to pull off the road safely before the tire was completely flat and could cause any damage to my trailer. Installation to my tow vehicle was a breeze, however when it came time to program the trailer the instructions were not clear in the process. I had to call their 800#, but it only took mere minutes to rectify the problem. Some times the monitor acts a little quirky i.e. When you turn the unit off and power it back on, it takes a while (sometimes 5-10 min) to receive a signal, and you will get a flashing yellow light accompanied with a tone. Otherwise I would give this product 5 stars.

I was having trouble with one particular sensor giving a false alarm. Called Hopkins. No questions asked, they put a new sensor, plus an antenna extension just in case it wasn't the sensor, in UPS Overnight to the campground I was staying in. Replaced the sensor. Problem resolved. Great service. Couldn't have asked for anything more.

Easy to install. Good directions. Took less than 30 minutes. Works well. Just to test it, I loosened the part that screws onto the valve stem so air would slowly leak out. The system worked as advertised. Glad I bought it. Great peace of mind.

Not very useable and hard to program

Purchased the product, had problems installing/programming the product. The provided documentation with the product was not clear on how to program the product for my configuration of motor home and tow vehicle. After speaking with one of Hopkins support people via phone I was able to program the monitoring system. After the initial setup I continued to have problems with the system losing information that had been programmed. Lose of sensor on tired that were programmed, lose of signal from the sensor and at times it would indicate that the tire pressure was too low (alarm) even though the pressure was correct for the tire.

The antenna did not help the situation at all. I added my trailer and hours go by trying to reset and reprogram mode the company asked me to to. Very idiosyncratic readings with no ability to repeat its reading, The readings are sometimes 10 psi low and sometimes a coach tire of 120psi is being read as 45psi from my trailer or even 101psi. I have little confidence in the unit and would try another company.

Easy to install, receiver immediately identified the monitored tires. Wish there was a simple way to "hardwire" it to the vehicle's electrical circuits. And, I wish that when programming follow-on configurations, I didn't have to re-program tires that will be included again in the new configuration.
