Countertop Extension

I used the countertop extension in the bedroom of my rv that has a slide out and no night stand on one side of the bed. I have been looking for a night stand that could be used and still not be in the way of the slide out operation. This countertop extension was what my rv needed as a night stand...Real easy to install..Wish I had thought of using this a year ago

Nice quality of wood, but hardware is too light weight for a good kitchen counter extension. Cannot hold much in the way of weight and have to be quite careful how much you stress it. Cannot seem to keep it level.

Easy to install, but does not fold down flush sticks out, and don't expect it to hold alot of weight-it doesn''t do the job.

It took my brother-in-law (who is a perfectionist) and a friend way more than 30 minutes to install and the bottom of shelf sticks out about 6 inches from cabinet. I did read the reviews before I purchased but really needed this extension for a coffee pot and didn't care if it stuck out a little but we have a slide that comes in about 5 inches from the end of the cabinet and this turned out to be a big problem. We removed the brad at the top of the hinge right under the shelf and I just stick a nail through the hole when I raise it. It works fine that way. If it were not for the slide I would not care that it doesn't lay flat.

The counter extension is a great addition to our kitchen counter for extra space. The one thing that is important for the extension to work correctly including folding down straight is to mount the extension on a counter top that has a lip that extends past the base of the counter. This allows the support bracket to fold under the countertop extension.

I'm very pleased. Because I have a rounded countertop, I could not install on the overhang. Had to install as if there was no overhang. Make sure you follow the directions carefully, and it will install properly. Yes, it sticks out some, as I expected since the hardware must store behind it. But if the arm is installed as the directions say, with the large part and the small part going in the right direction, it sticks out at most 1 inch at the bottom. I did have to add support behind the counter wall - the paneling alone is not sufficient to support the shelf. I anchored a 2x4 behind it, and screwed the support into the 2x4.

I bought one of these only to find that I too have a 2 inch overhang on my TT kitchen counter. I've since found the perfect bracket on-line with Lee Valley, called the 'Drop-Leaf Support', along with two strong hinges (or one piano hinge) and one could use a wooden cutting board as the work surface. instant counter!

This is exactly what I was looking for to give me some additional countertop surface. It was easy to install and works great. I would give it 5 stars if there were a variety of sizes from which to select rather than only one size.

The cooktop is right next to the couch and when I suggested it the wife thought it wouldn't be needed, take up space, look weird, etc. etc. After buying and installing? WHAT WERE WE DOING WITHOUT IT? Yeah... the space added is super helpful, used constantly and since it is just the wife and me, we never fold it down except for driving. First off... the side of our cabinets are paneling with nothing behind it... CHECK THIS FIRST!!! We had to go to the hardware store to buy some butterfly nuts/bolts and also had to drill a much larger hole than originally thought. If this were to be removed for many reasons... it would look messy. instructions also do not mention if whether your counter has plastic trim around it... that will have to be trimmed away and especially because/if you have particle board counters like ours does. If you were to leave the trim... the extension wouldn't mate to the counter clean but most of all it forces the holes for the piano hinge to be out toward the edge of the particle board counter, which would result in stripped out holes. Only took about 30 minutes to install (minus the trip to the hardware store) so it is not hard or time consuming, just make sure it is for you before starting. So once I committed and made allowances for my conditions, it went in great and we are super happy. It does stick out a little further than we thought/hoped. Second, it is not super stable, yes it will hold stuff, no worries, but what they really need to do is to supply two brackets and space them out so it would be more stable/strong. I would buy it again.

The shelf installed with no problems, just closely follow instructions. The shelf is located next to our gas cooktop and adds just the additional amount of space that we needed. Very convenient and attractive.

Good product, well made, but if you watch the installation video you will see that when finished, their demonstration extension top did not lay flat against the side of the cabinet. The same thing happened to me. I had to drill two extra holes in the side of the cabinet to get the proper adjustment so it would lay flush when folded down. The trick, when using their template, is if your measurement ends up between the lines, round down (not up) to get the proper fit. Instructions were not clear on this and I ended up having to drill the lower cabinet holes twice.
Pros: Added space, Good construction , Easy set up

Perfect product to add counter space to our too small RV bathroom. I was a bit skeptical, but it went in easily, as per instructions. We have counter overhangs, but I installed as though w/o overhang by putting it just below the lip, so it swings up underneath the overhang. Worked out fine. RV cabinet veneer is *very* thin, so to strengthen the installation I glued two pieces of 1X3 to the inside of the cabinet wall, and used longer screws than come in the package to go through the veneer and deeper into the 1X3... that stiffens the veneer, and spreads any loading across the surface. Shelf doesn't fold completely flat when down, but it does drop down enough that it's out of the way and unobtrusive. We'll plan to travel with it locked in the up position, to stop it banging around when we drive. Very pleased with the results.
Pros: Easy installation
