The PacBrake (PB) PRXB is an excellent product and a direct replacement for an existing PB, but with improved
performance at slower engine RPM. The new PRXB comes with installation instructions, but there are none for replacing an existing PB. More than likely, the 2 existing clamps can be re-used, as well as the existing air solenoid and
Hamilton valve if they were working with the original PB. My clamps seemed almost new after 17 years of use on our
motorhome with a CAT 3126 engine, but I recently had to replace the original Hamilton valve (about $35). Remove the
air hose to the Hamilton value and remove the valve from the
PB cylinder.. You may need to move some of the plumbing to
the new PB in order to attach the Hamilton valve to it.
To remove the old PB, first loosen the two clamps. To create
some room in the exhaust line to get the PB out, un-clamp
the muffler and other downstream piping temporarily and
slide all of that an inch or so away from the PB. (On mine,
I had to loosen only 2 clamps holding the muffler.) You may
have to tap (gently) on the old PB to loosen the bonds. Then
remove the old PB, attach the new one to the turbo, and
attach the other side after sliding the exhaust line back in
place tightly and at the correct angle for the exhaust pipe.
Re-attach the air line to the Hamilton valve and you should
be in business.
The Configuration Wizard suffers from some typos in the data
it uses to help determine which PRXB is needed, and the
terminology does not coincide with the terminology at the PB
website. The Wizard produces a Camping World (CW) part
number, but then crashes with an Error In Database Search
message, which I assumed was to find some other useful
information about what I was ordering, such as the PB part
number. Until CW corrects these problems, there is no way to
determine which CW part number corresponds to which PB part
number and making an ordering error is more likely.
