Induction cooking technology warms only the food and pan - not the cooking surface! Energy produced by the cooktop is directly supplied to the cooking vessel by a magnetic field. The unit functions very well so far. Fun to cook with once you understand the principal of induction cooking. Boils water in less than 2min and doesn't heat the coach like gas stove. Once the pan is removed from the surface, the unit shuts off. The only reason for 4 instead of 5 stars is the lack of availability for cookware suitable.(If a magnet will not stick to the bottom, the cooktop will not work.) There is a metal disc that I have found to put between the unit and any style pan that allows the unit to work. Full sets of cookware can be very costly. I recommend you only buy what you absolutly need. You will enjoy this product but research it completely before you buy.

Have loved it. It hasn't even made its way to the coach yet. Use it almost nightly. It has performed better than I had hoped. I think it is the best of gas and electric combiled.

Just got this at Wilsonville, OR store. Love it! Am trying it out at home and like it better than my home smoothtop range! Super fast, only needs to be at med power level to cook the perfect omlette! The skillet that came with it is also wonderful. Appreciate that it is free of the chemicals we don't like that is in Teflon coated pans. This same cooktop sells for $200 at Bed Bath & Beyond (just looked at their website to compare)! Great value!
