After owning the same Reese 16.000lb.hitch since 2005 I felt uncomfortable with the amount of wear that I had naturally accrued with two different trucks. So with fairly new rails installed by Camping World I ordered a new 16,000 lb. Reese Fifth Wheel replacement hitch. The first thing I noticed was the smaller dimensions on most of the surface's. I have to use the bottom holes (Dodge 2500 four door 8ft.bed) on the hitch to lower it in the bed so the Fifth Wheel will ride level. Well I saved the old hardware to check the new one out and found out that the hitch ride's lower in the bed because they changed the height and width of every thing! The problem with skimping on material by using smaller diameter mounting pins is that the hitch wants to lift up in the rear when braking and lift up in the front when powering up, creating a bang! So when the bean counter's come knocking on the door saying you are putting too much into the product, slam the door in their face! They used to make these in the USA, now in Asia somewhere. Not too happy right now with this product, and yes we are getting tired of it!

    Bad hitch

I bought this hitch new to replace my old Reese in FL which was getting hard to release when the hurricane Hermine was approaching. The RV was on a grass site and was soaked. I decided to move south. I hooked it up, checked to see it was locked and all was good. I pulled out of rain soaked grass pad OK. I drove down roads in park making 2 turns and then it released the 10,000 lb RV. Almost all the damage was to the truck, tail gate trashed and passenger side bed rail very bad. If this was my error the RV would have released long before I got out of the grass site as the wheels were bogged down in soft earth. I had just come out of a turn when it released. Thank God the RV had very little damage, I can fix it myself. Now Reese wants to see the hitch and I will bet that they find nothing wrong with it. As the other guy said above these are made in China now. Camping World of Florida was great they got me another hitch by another manufacture and at no charge replaced it. I was in and out in about 40 minutes. I highly recommend them. I hope Reese realizes that anything could have made the release, like even if the hitch looked locked and every thing was in the right place on the hitch (lock was down and locked) does not mean it was 100 % locked maybe it was only 50% but looked 100%. I would never have gotten out of the lot if it was not locked in.
