This cast iron griddle is a tough outdoors griddle. It is harder to clean like any natural
iron surface will be. No sissy non stick (what is that stuff?) paper towel cleaning. You will
need a grill brush and elbow grease. Why clean it each time you use it? Wait until you
get home and clean it where you have soap and plenty of water. Great product, but not a
Our grill came with one grated griddle and one solid griddle, so we purchased this so we would have more grilling surface for steaks, hamburgers, etc. It fits perfectly and we love having a lot of grilling space.
We purchased the Roadtrip Grill - first excellent choice! After that, we purchased the grated griddle, and now cook out almost every night! It's been handy and great to take camping, and we have recommened this item and all other accessories to our friends!
We were rather surprised when our Roadtrip grill arrived with only one grated
griddle but rather a solid griddle. So we ordered another grated griddle. It is
sturdy and will do the job. Don't know how often we'll use the solid griddle
but it will open up other grilling options.
Purchased the blue Coleman Roadtrip grill. WORKS GREAT! The additional accessories in cast iron are worthless. You cannot clean them. You will need oven cleaner, scouring pads and lots of elbow grease to remove the food residue. I have searched for the aluminum grates at camping worlds on the east coast and still cannot find any! Aluminum is GREAT and easy to clean.
This was our first weekend using the Coleman Roadtrip Grill (the blue one). The unit comes with an aluminum Grill Grate and an aluminum Griddle Grate. We read reviews at numerous websites and decided to buy one cast iron grill grate and compare the two this weekend. We had read the cast iron was much heavier, thus it would hold heat longer and grill more evenly across the entire grate. We
read the aluminum was easier to clean and much much lighter in weight. We grilled four dinners, two breakfasts, and three lunches on the grill. We made steaks, burgers, ribs, bacon, breakfast sausage, bratwursts, chicken breasts on the bone. We usually grill 2-3 nights a
week at home, so I'd say we're grill'n people! We were SURE the Cast Iron grate would rock! Ultimately we didn't
see any difference between the aluminum and the cast iron until it was time to clean the grates between meals. Both held heat evenly across the entire grate and the reviews were right....The cast iron is
HEAVY! When it came time to clean the grates we were able to rub the grease off of the aluminum grate with paper towels - even the barbeque sauces and sugar bases marinades came off. The cast
Iron Grate seamed to bake on the sauces which made removal with paper towels impossible. I had to take it into the camper and scrub with a screan scratch pad to remove debris. Not my idea of fun! Maybe the cast iron grate was hotter so the stuff baked on, but not hot enough to notice a difference when we evenly split food across both grates to test them evenly. We'll be buying another aluminum grate! Last note: Using Pam Spray in the drop pan before beginning to grill, instead of water, made the clean up process very easy. Bring plenty of paper towels!
It was a bright sunny May morning in the foothills of California (Scott's Flat
Res) when upon my waking up and taking a nice dip in the lake I returned
to camp where I saw a sight to be seen. In-laws were cooking breakfast
on the RoadTrip grill, well all was going well until they cleaned my grill
with a wire brush... The grill was ruined, my Bar-B-Que days were over.
Until about three days later when I found all the pieces that I needed here
at Camping World. So on I go into the sunset grilling for all to enjoy. So let
this be a reminder not to allow the In-laws at your RoadTrip without giving
them the 411 on how to clean it first.
