could be closer to 41/16 between the bolts so it would fit more snug to the bumper. I had to add shims to tighten it up, otherwise it is a good product. it is built strong.

Purchased the bumper adapter for two reasons: first, to be used to mount a rear view camera on my travel trailer to sub for the normal rear view mirror, and second to use with a bike rack. It mounted easily and works perfect with the camera mount that a friend (a professional welder) and I designed and he fabricated. Haven't tried the rack yet but that is in the future. Had to mount it on the bottom of the bumper due to space constraints but still works great.

Simple Solution for Bumper or Bike Rack

This is a simple, easy to install solution for anyone looking to install a bike rack or bumper rack. I wouldn't tow anything with it, but you probably could if you welded it on.

It took only 10 minutes to install. I now mount my cargo carrier to the bumper hitch, and can still tow the car on the frame hitch. I even used this mount to attach my portable winch, and then used the winch to pull the car onto the trailer (ramps must be close to level so you do not exceed hitch or winch capacity).Overall a good purchase!

Works Well Until Your Bumper Falls Off

    December 04, 2012
Mounted this to the bottom of the bumper since the actual trailer body was in the way to have it mounted on top. It lasted only 3 trips and luckily had an RV convoy so that who was behind us let us know that our bikes where dragging on the ground behind the RV. The RV came with the spare attached to the square bumper, but I guess adding the bike rack was too much for the stock bumper and it literally twisted off and destryed the bikes. I am now paying nearly $800 to replace with a heavier duty bumper, in essence a voided frame warranty, and have to buy 2 new bikes and a new bike rack. Morale of the story, make sure your bumper can handle it before you make over $2000 mistake for $38.

    1. The 4 black tubular steel object on the rear of your camper is NOT a bumper ... it is merely a place to store hoses and possibly hold your spare tire. 2. For those who wondered if you can tow a small trailer using this: no, do not do that. 3. These will hold a light weight item, but manufacturers (KZ, Keystone, etc) will tell you to not use them for bike racks and such. I found they were right when the weld on the right side (facing the rear of the camper) of my KZ snapped. I was hauling only two bikes and driving on mostly interstates. The momentum caused by even good roads is compounded by the weight of the rack plus bikes and worsened because of harmonics of slight vibrations (roughness, uneven tarmac, even tiny chuckholes, pavement joints, etc. I had Camping World replace the square tube with 1/8 steel tubing and welded on thick L-brackets. But I couldn't trust even those modifications enough to haul my bikes. I just bought a new Keystone 30rls that had small brackets installed during construction. The identical 30rls next to it didn't have the original brackets. I'm having my camper modified with beefier brackets before I consider hauling anything. When I called Keystone about the bumper adapter and rack, the company advised me to not do that. Even though it had a spare tire and propane grill attached the same way. Beware what you do. The G-forces are magnified due to whip coming off the camper chassis. A thirty pound bike weighs many times more due to pulling additional Gs!

This is the perfect solution to being able to use a bicycle carrier on the back of a travel trailer with a 4 inch square bumper. We were very happy to be able to mount our bicycle carrier on the travel trailer where the bicycles were not in danger of being damaged if mounted between the tow vehicle and a travel trailer. It was very easy to install, only took 5 minutes. Comes with an adapter to receive a one inch bicycle carrier post. Have used it at highway speeds on a 600+ miles round trip and we couldn't be happier with the results. Excellent value for the price.

Recently I installed a front hitch on my excursion so we can take our bikes, Well after the first trip with bikes on the front of the truck I decided I needed to do something different because I was having a hard time seeing. I found this bumper adapter and have moved the bikes to the rear bumper of the camper. I had this on in less then 5 minutes

I bought this to use for the 3 bike carrier sold here at Camping World. It is solid and easy to bolt onto the bumper. On our first trip out we were rear-ended by a H&R driver. The bikes and rack got wasted but this sucker was strong enough to cause my bumper to peel away from the frame as the bikes and rack were pushed under the rear of my trailer. I'd say it's a solid purchase as it was the only thing re-usable after the accident.

Very sturdy thick plate steel. Good welding. Holes for hitch pin were slightly misaligned and holes were too tight — these conditions required reaming out just a little with a hardened machine bit. Overall, I'm pleased with it, but quality control needs improving. Made in China.

Wish that the holes for the bolts were positioned so that the bolts fit snuggly against the bumper. With the 1/4 to 1/2 inch of play, the unit can swivel a bit on the bumper. But I found that when I mount my bike rack, I have to use ratchet straps to secure the rack (attached two straps to the ends of the bumper) and keep it from moving back and forth. The adapter should work just fine for a bike rack, but I don't think I'd try pulling any wheeled trailer with it.

very sturdy and strong. very easy to install. only issue is the screw that tightens down the actual carrier seems to vibrate loose on travel. At each stop I had to retighten in down. Minor issue still has a lock on it so its not going anywhere, just a little movement when that screw loosens.

Been trying to figure out a way to carry that extra cargo in the back of a trailer and this product looks good. However, I would need to know the allowable weight so other type of receivers could be used. Thus, I think that would depend on the bumper the product is installed upon.

This bumper adapter is just what I needed and was exactly as described. The nuts that came with it are in fact messed up so get some regular nuts and lock washers before starting to install. The nuts are metric M12 class 8 nuts and I used standard heavy duty 1/2" lock washers (4 of each). This will make it a very simple installation. Also, I think that Camping World may have had this item packaged and labeled for shipping even before I logged off from ordering as it was delivered 2 days later. THANKS Camping World! Great job.

Agree the hard ware is not for the faint at heart. The lock nuts being dimpled cut with each turn. Had to sit my wife on bumper with 2 ft breaker bar and myself below with 20 in. rachet. Much cursing to get nuts tight but once tight they ain't going anywhere. Good sturdy product. Holds my 5 bike rack without issue. Would recomend but is a two person install.

I added this to my rear bumper to carry a 3-bike rack. On our latest trip, almost all mounting bolts came loose, both on this adapter and the bike rack. It's only a miracle we didn't loose our bikes. I replaced the main bolt on the rack with a new one and added a new lock washer, I also replaced the stock nuts on this unit with lock nuts. The only flaw on this unit is that the nuts are not lock nuts or that they could have provided some lock washers. We'll see how my set-up handles the next trip. On a side note, our last trip was over some very rough roads, some were pathetic and should have been detoured.

I purchased the RV 2" Bumper Adapter to replace the already installed 1 1/4" receiver on the trailer and it worked like a charm. The 4 bike carrier fit snugly into the receiver and it didn't move...and if you've driven the I-95 corridor from NY to FL you know how rough the ride is...this adapter is well built and is worth the money.

    The Good and the Bad

241 out of 366 people found this review helpful.
    July 10, 2006
I recently purchased the 2" bumper adapter and installed it on my sewer hose. Inside the box were no instructions, just the two 3/16" metal plates, the bolts and four nuts. I centered the rack on my bumper and then bolted the unit together. I was curious how the Nuts were going to remain on tightly given they were not nylon locking nor were there any lock washers in the package. There was three small "Dents" in each washer - which I thought would hold the nuts in place. That's not the case. After traveling from Los Angeles to Yosemite, I found all four nuts had wiggled loose. Add to it, trying to find four additional nuts to "lock them together" was useless given they are metric (19MM wrenchs are required!). I dutifully retightened the nuts and hoped it would make it back to Los Angeles. I was wrong. About 2 hours on the return, I found one of the nuts has fallen off. Two of the other three were loose. I retightened the remaining bolts and used motorcycle tie-downs to secure the four bikes to the back to the trailer. I made it home fine after that. Lessons learned... 1. Get locking Nuts for the bolts. 2. Put something like sand paper under the plates to stop it from walking (mine walked about 4 inches to the drivers side because of the motion) 3. Be prepared to find your Sewer tube has a dent in it (Mine now does). 4. If you have the time, I'd tack weld it in place (my next steps for it). For what it's worth, I had four bicycles on the rack only. the total weight was probably only about 50 to 60 lbs. What I wasn't prepared for was the vertical motion. My rubber straps for the bikes (which had worked find on the back of my truck) couldn't hold the bikes in place. The vertical motion was too much for my straps and they released. I used zip ties to hold them in place and that worked. All in all I'm happy with my purchase. It's the 'gotchas' that I want to pass along to the next customer.

    2" RV Bumper Adapter

I have a 24fter 5th wheel, and as with everyone, space is always an issue, there is never enough, My TV is a short bed, I have a low profile Diamond plate tool box, so I have no room left in side the bed of my truck for my generator, which is 16 x 20 x 24, and 118 pounds. I bought this 2 " Bumper Adapter to attach to my 4 " steel sewer hose bumper, and used the same product Camping world has, # 27596, Wide Body Hitch-Haul, now I have a place to put my Generator, and a lot of other things too, it will hold # 500 lbs. Again, Camping World has saved the day, Thanks. P.S. if you have a spot welded 4 in bumper, you will have to have it welded all the way across.

Just installed the 2" RV bumper adapter on the 4" rear bumper of our trailer. I had to move the spare tire to one side of the bumper and installed the 2" receiver near the center of the bumper. Now I can use our Graber bicycle rack in the 2" receiver on the back of the camper. This product is very heavy duty and easy to install. Heavy duty bolts are included. No instructions were included, by you really shouldn't need any. Saved me from having to get a 2" receiver welded onto the bumper.
