I was contacted by Sleep by Number. I was told that if you move the bed a lot it can go flat. Also, if you are driving in the mountains or up and down mountains you might have to let some air out. That being said, they did send me 2 new air chambers for free. Good customer service. But I'm not using it the RV anymore. Too much trouble for me.
Cons: Air chambers keep going flat and will not hold air
We bought this bed 3 years ago. Before the first year was up the left chamber went flat. I called sleep by number and did all their tests and they sent me a replacement chamber. Next year the right side went flat and I called, did the tests checked for sharp object etc. and they charged me to replace the chamber. This year as we drove across the USA first the left chamber and then the right chamber went flat. We slept on the pull out bed on the couch. Needless to say I'm done with this mattress that keeps costing us.
Cons: Air chambers keep going flat and will not hold air
The delivery was fast. Received the mattress in 2 days after ordering online. Setup was easy but might be a challenge for someone not handy with tools. The reason for purchasing this of course is the comfort. My setting is 35 and my partner sets her side at 55. The bed is very comfortable and we both slept great. Adjusting the level is quiet and we can set both sides the same when we want to snuggle and not deal with one side being softer and falling off the edge. We had a full size mattress in our trailer that was too long. It was squashed against the closet when the slide out was in for travel. The short queen fits perfect. There is no problem with regular queen sheets fitting on the short queen.
My partner is small and has suffered major back surgery
which makes it tough for her to find a mattress that works
right for her. I am large and have edema in my legs, which
has made it tough for me to find a mattress that works well
for me. And we are full-timers, living in a 38 foot 5th
wheel, so we need a reasonably light mattress. We have done
well in the past with inexpensive air mattresses, but they
fail much too quickly these days. So we decided to save our
pennies and buy a sleep number bed.
Now my partner can adjust her bed, even in the middle of the
night, to feel comfortable depending on how her back is
doing. I don't have to worry about my weight making the bed
too stiff for her comfort. Expensive, but well worth the
cost for both of us to be happy campers!
The mattress on our bed was very new and we had a foam pillow top on it. I constantly
woke with a sore lower back. We ordered a queen short, which was delivered in a few days. It
was easy to assemble and I now sleep great, although we both are still experimenting
with finding our sleep number. Would heartily recommend this product.
I love my Sleep Number bed, have one at home and had to get
this for my new trailer. BUT it's made as an RV mattress so
why not offer a 12 volt option for the pump unit? There are
times I will dry camp for extended periods and I will
probably need to adjust it after going over mountains, etc.
(heard altitude changes require resetting). I guess I can
run it on an inverter, haven't tried. 12 Volts would be so
I love this bed. Replaced an upgraded mattress with a memory foam topper in our travel trailer . We had to put the head of the mattress with the hoses at the foot of the bed to make it work otherwise it would be a 5 star! We drilled two holes in the platform and put the air tubes and pump into the storage area under the bed. Works great!!

Backpain is Gone!

We bought this mattress for our travel trailer because the one that was in it caused us both
terrible back pain. After just one night we noticed the difference, back pain was gone!
We've used it for two weeks straight and love it. We need one at home too!
We bought this bed because we are going on a long trip and my husband has back
problems on the 3rd day it went flat on his side so he pulled it apart and did the check
they suggested. He lubed the o ring with spit and it now hold air. He wishes that they
would of put 90 degree elbows on the bed and the fitting at the end of the bed instead
of the head of the bead for ease of access to check fittings. Otherwise it nice I'm a 30
setting and he is a 60 setting.
My wife and I purchased a 25 ft travel trailer in October 2011. Our travel trailer included a marginal mattress, though we are very pleased with the other features. After our first trip it became pretty clear to me that I may be flying solo on future trips if I did not improve the quality of the sleep experience for my wife. Long story, short.....the Select Comfort mattress has provided a whole new level of comfort to our travel trailer life.
We have had a Select Comfort mattress for many years in our home, so once I discovered this product was available in the short queen for our travel trailer, I was quick to invest. I setup the Select Comfort, by myself, in about 2 hours. There is nothing in the setup that
caused me any problems.
At this point we have completed two extended trips of 2+ weeks and our Select Comfort has brought peace, harmony, and comfort to our sleep experience. Listen guys, a happy wife is
a happy life within the confines of a travel trailer.
We purchased this bed based on the reviews but, as always, a bit skeptical. We are
currently living in our camper while we save to build our house. We anticipate to be in
our camper for 3 years total. After having our sleep number bed for a month, I can tell
you that we are extremely happy. No more back aches, headaches, or any other sore
body parts. After being on the original mattress that came with our camper for 13
months (with memory foam toppers, etc.), the sleep number bed was a relief and will
make the next 2 years tolerable!
I ordered the dual sleep system. It assembled in less than an hour. The air compressor is very quiet and airs the chambers up quickly. This bed is wonderful. It took me a couple weeks to find my number but now that I have it, its a wonderful nights sleep.
Just got our Sleep Number bed and put it in the RV. Now we have the same bed on the road as we do at home. Great bed and great service for Camping World. The bed arrived as promised even with a holiday weekend involved. Thank you so much.
We have it set up in the house since the fifth wheel is still in winter storage but it is the same quality (same components) as our king home sleep number and I am so excited to have a short queen that I can walk around in the bedroom instead of the aero matteress which seems to take up the whole bedroom. I was amazed that everything in our home set up is duplicated here. I know it will be great on the road. We will drill a few holes to store the pump under the platform.
I have only had the bed a few days so I am still trying to find my sleep number, but it seems comfortable enough. My review is more about Camping World. The price was excellent, I couldn't find the short queen anywhere else at this price. The shipping, the speed of the shipping was excellent. I ordered and it was on my doorstep in less than a week. I was very
pleased with this transaction, and would recommend CW for online shopping anytime. DW
We do not yet have a Sleep Number for the motorhome, but we've been sleeping for several years on a Premier Queen Sleep Number in our home and expect to get one when we get our new motorhome (we presently have an innerspring queen in the old motorhome). We have noticed the need to adjust the Sleep Numbers whenever there is a significant atmospheric pressure change, and if the bedroom has gotten much warmer or colder than the last time we adjusted it. Both of these issues are something that would affect any air-bed. Not much of a
problem, obviously--that's what the remote is for. If the motor is adversely affected by extreme cold, as stated in another review, it would not be hard to disconnect it and bring it into the house for storage. The connectors to the tubing are quick-disconnect, and the motor only weighs a few pounds. I suspect that there are synthetic rubber valves and diaphrams in the motor, which might very well risk
being cracked by being operated in extreme cold. The bed itself appears
to be made of materials that would not be adversely affected by any temperature change, although like anything made of vinyl-like material, it probably should be warmed above freezing before sitting on it. Anyhow, we love the Sleep Number bed in our home, and I am sure we will like the RV version when we get it. We have never been sorry that we bought the home version.
We have been sleeping on a Select Comfort Mattress in our home since 2001. I use to get up every morning with a back ache. Not anymore. This is by far the most comfortable mattress I have ever slept on. I can't wait to change out the mattress in my 5th wheel.
Would this work as part of a murphy bed set-up in an rv? Weight compared to a traditional short queen mattress?
by bmw51January 02, 2016
The sleep number bed weighs around 40 lbs. while a traditional or memory foam bed can vary in weight from 50 to 70 lbs. There are two concessions that would have to be made for a Sleep Number mattress; unplug the air control system before storing the mattress and empty the air bladders before travel to avoid any damage. Otherwise, these beds can be used to directly replace a 'traditional' RV mattress even with a murphy bed configuration.

Can it be installed in a bedroom slide?
The bed platform does not open as the slide mechanism is in there. Worried about the bed rolling over the cords.
by DataAugust 23, 2015
Yes a sleep number bed can be placed in a slide out as it is not a model the compresses or folds over the mattress when retracting the slide. In regards to cords, while laborious you can disconnect the compressor from power and place it on the bed while taking in the slack air tubing to keep it out of the way of a retracting slide.

do you have to deflate for high altitudes?
read a review on sleep number beds & they said to be sure to deflate it before traveling in high altitudes. We have purchased one for our rv & are wondering if we would have a problem with this....the review said we would hear a loud pop if we didn't. Can anyone verify this for us?
by AnonymousJuly 30, 2014
The manufacturer recommends deflating the mattress before traveling due to changes in air pressure.
