This is a good idea for camping in the summer heat. However, since we only camp once a month the solar vent does not need to be on all the time, while the camper is in storage. Therefore, I went to Radio Shack purchased a switch and
installed it so that I can turn off the power to the fan when the camper is stored and back on when we are camping. This should extend the life of the fan.

The install wasn't as quick one as I had hoped but that was because of the travel trailer
configuration not the reefer vent cover. It started working as soon as the wires were
connected and has been going strong. It's only been a couple of days so I'll have to
revisit this review at a later date. We'll see how it stands up to the desert heat and sun.

After years of struggling with unacceptable interior fridge temps each summer in our old '84 Pace Arrow, one day I bought a solar vent fan like this one and installed it. The installation was pretty easy and it helped keep the food at a reasonable temp. no matter how hot it got outside. The fan was mounted at the bottom so fresh air from the access door blew up over the coils, and an inside switch at the base of the fridge allowed me to turn it to battery-run in the evening or if camped under a tree where sun couldn't get to the solar panel. I often thought of adding a second fan at the top to super cool the unit, but the one I did install really helped a lot. Mine didn't have the included vent cover like this new one; the solar panel merely screwed to the top of the original vent cover. But hey, whatever works, and I can attest that a solar powered fan helps.
