Description

CAMCO MFG INC 687
Versatile mounting bracket hooks to the side of your RV or works as a tabletop stand.
The Camco 57305 Olympian RV 5500 Stainless Steel RV Grill is a unique, high-quality grill designed to be used while attached to your RV, or as a standalone outdoor grill with its included mounting bracket. It is constructed of stainless steel and is compatible with either standard or disposable propane cylinders via a low-pressure quick-connect propane outlet.

The Perfect Grilling Option for Your RV

Suitable for use both for RVs and in other outdoor situations, the Olympian RV 5500 is a high-quality lightweight stainless steel barbecue that is designed to increase the flavor of cooked food without causing dangerous flare-ups that you don't want around your vehicle. The unit is constructed of durable and easy-to-clean stainless steel and comes with a versatile mounting bracket which allows for use along the side of your RV or to use as a stand. Its patented smoker plate is designed to offer the fullest flavor while minimizing the chance of flare-ups by vaporizing grease. Add to this quick and easy assembly and compatibility with both standard commercial or disposable LP cylinders and you have the perfect grilling option for your RV.

Multi-Purpose Mounting Bracket

If the RV or trailer has a preinstalled mounting rail, the provided mounting bracket can be used to hang the grill from the side of the RV or trailer. The mounting bracket can be attached by holding it at a 45-degree angle over the mounting rail and sliding it onto the aluminum mounting rail and then slowly lowering towards the trailer or RV. The horizontal mount channel on the side of the bottom housing has small tabs that will lock into the grooves on the support arms. Slide the grill to the desired location and then allow the tabs to lock in place. Make sure the grill is square on both support arms.

The mounting bracket doubles as a table stand if you want to use the grill away from the RV or trailer. Set the mounting bracket on the table or other flat surface with the support arms pointing up. Position the grill with the back toward the springs on the mounting bracket and slide the support arms into the vertical mount channels on the side of the grill. The mounting bracket has leveling rubber bumpers for balancing or leveling the grill.

Standard or Disposable Propane Cylinders

Your new grill is designed to operate with any RV or trailer equipped with a low-pressure quick-connect propane outlet. When you receive your grill it will be factory equipped with the proper propane gas quick-connect and hose assembly to connect to your RV or trailer. If the RV or trailer does not have a low-pressure quick-connect propane outlet, you may purchase an accessory hose that will connect your grill to a 5 lb or 20 LB propane cylinder or to a 1 LB throwaway cylinder. There are several other options to use your RV or trailer's propane if you are not already equipped.

    Great Little Grill

This is a great little grill! I bought it to replace the anemic little grill that came with my Keystone Passport travel trailer. This grill fits on the grill rail on the trailer and the hose (included) fit the low pressure gas system already installed on the TT. It heats up very quickly and gets very hot (which you need to watch out for). It also works very well as a table top grill that i connect to the trailer gas with a longer hose.

    Good grill

I have used this grill mounted on the side of our class A motor home for several years and love the way it cooks. The down side is the cooking grate which is not stainless steel. We winter in Florida and things rust here real bad. The grate got so rusty I couldn't clean it and couldn't get a replacement so I had a local firm build me one of the exact dimensions and spacing out of stainless steel. It was spendy but worth every cent as it is now very easy to clean. The only other problem I've had is the spark button doesn't work so I use a propane lighter. I will buy another when needed and use my old grate.

Really great grill. Built solid and ready to go. Only negative was that it gets too hot. I have learned to turn down the gas valve to lower the temp.

I had another grill that mounted on the side of my RV, this was bought as a replacement. It has a lot of good features like a temperature gauge and electric starter. My only potential issue is that as far as temperatures it pretty much only seems to run at Very Hot or Very Very Hot no matter where the I set the temperature control.

    Cooks Hot!

It cooks on Low 400 F & 750 F on high. The low temperature should be about 200 F to warm things. (flares up when cooking link sausage) I will not be mounting it on my rv, so I shortened the stand legs 4 inches. I also purchase a 8 ft. hose and connected it to other hose.

    The Little Grill That Can

    April 14, 2013
I purchased this grill about a year ago for use on my Class C RV. When I took the grill out of the box it was missing the latch, but I called the manufacturer's customer service line and they sent one out at no cost (I was very happy with their customer service). The bracket fit perfectly on the existing rail for mounting on the side of the RV. It cooks evenly for the most part and is just the right size where it takes up minimal space, but yet large enough where I can easily cook burger, brats, steaks, etc. for my family of five. It's a bit expensive at full price, but worth it if you can get it on sale!

This is very good little LP grill. Holds temp very well. Two things would make this a fantastic grill - it should have a stainless steel grade and quite a few of the edges/corners are sharp.

    Not truly a stainless grill

First of all, there are some great features on this grill. It is a nice size; the igniter is great; temperature regulation is better than average; and the cast cooking grid (dissipates heat and improves flavor) is very nice. However the cooking grill - the most important part - is neither stainless nor replaceable.

    Best Portable BBQ Ever

    June 18, 2012
I consider myself to be a master BBQ'er, in fact, nearly every night I am cooking something good on the BBQ. That doesn't change while on the road either. I have cooked more than 200 dinners on this grill and have NEVER cooked on a better portable BBQ. Cooking excellent seafood on any BBQ is particularly challenging, but this BBQ has the most even heat of any BBQ, large or small I have ever cooked on. The grill spacing is excellent, so even very flakey fish doesn't fall through, The way the flame shield is designed, the flame is distributed evenly, even in extremely high winds, something most portable BBQ's fail at. Cleaning is a breeze, the removable drip tray is easy to remove, clean and replace. This grill is a WINNER!

    Can be found cheaper elsewhere

    May 24, 2012
This grill was on backorder until June so I searched the internet for another one and I found it $30 cheaper elsewhere (with free shipping). When I called to cancel the order with Camping World, to my surprise it had already shipped and CW does not price match. I could return the grill to CW, but shipping back to them would be at my expense, so it's not worth it. Bummer. It looks like a nice grill but I haven't tried it out yet. I have a 1998 Allegro Bus which came with a grill but it finally rotted out so it's time to replace it.

    Not completely Stainless

I bought this to replace a Olympian Gas grill that we really liked, except that the grates rusted out. This grill cooks well, but turns brown/ black after it is heated up and the cooking grate is not stainless steel and rust the same as a cheap grill. For the money there are much better alternatives.

I thought this was a great grill! It heats up beautifully, cooks a mean burger and cleans up beautifully. I don't expect my grills to remain showroom fresh once they are used so I guess I am easy to please. When you heat something up to over 500 degrees, it turns black, I think I remember that from chemistry! It was well worth it and it stores under the bench seat in my camper. I am ordering the carry bag for it next.

    Stainless Steel Mountable Grill

I have a 95 Allegro Bus that had a slide out grill. This one fits to size and with some work I built brackets to mount it in the original position. Like the fact of mostly stainless because of location of the grill.

    not so fast

I purchased this grill for my RV, and immediately attached it to my hot dog cart. (I owned a couple hot dog stands) and as with some of the other reviews, the welds are the only source of weakness for this product. I used it 6 hours a day for 9 months and this unit cooked faster and better than any grill I have ever had. To clean it...spray it with easy-off ..wait 10 min. and rinse off with water hose..great product! by the way, the igniter works well, it's just that the flame is so small (almost clear) at first, you dont think it has ignited, just press it a few times and have the gas on High to ignite.

Just doesn't have that spark for me.

Picked this up on sale for $175 thinking it was the best deal on it for some time. I was under the impression it would be made of a bit heavier gauge steel, it is very light weight. I'm keeping the drill and pop rivets on hand. The included gas line is shorter than the one that came with the Jayco RV's original grill and I have to use the old line. Although some of the metal is stamped to accept it, the inlet and control valve cannot be moved from the right-side to the left without drilling extra holes, the burner will flip easy enough. Like the other reviewer, the igniter sparks but burner does not light. Tried to reposition the spark but to no avail, I use a butane lighter. Nice looking, even heat distribution, decent control and the iron grate score this item points. Though I doubt I’d buy the same a second time around.

I let my grill fall from the camper and the spot welds that hold the top to the bottom broke. I fixed the grill by brazing the broken welds.

easy assembly, quickly heats up, easy to mount on RV

This grill is great. It is worth the money. I had it assembled in less than ten minutes. In another ten minutes, I was grilling hot dogs for the kids. I love the way it hangs on the side of the RV and connects to the quick connect. No more small propane bottles for me. I also like the stand that allows you to set up on a table. This will come in handy when I'm grilling greasy foods like chicken. I would imagine that all that smoke and flare would not be good for the side of the RV. Anyway, this grill is very versatile and well built. I recommend this grill to anyone who wants or likes simplicity. P.S. The camper that had trouble with their Olympian 5500 on this comment section must have bought a defective one. I have experienced nothing to the like of their comments.

This unit is easy to adjust the temperature for slow cooking and for searing. But best of all is after you have finished grilling, just turn the heat up to high and burn off the residue, let it cool then just take a brush and clean the grate and cast iron plate and you are ready to go again with no burnt on crud from the last grilling.

I love a good steak on the grill. This grill is great for searing the steak with an even heat. Once preheated this grill does not fall flat when the grill lid is opened. The heat is very even across the grill and is easy to clean. I use a 20' hose connected to the low side quick connect on the side of my rig. I use it on a picnic table or using its stand on the ground.

Was looking for a replacement quick-connect grill. Found this, and while a bit more than I initially wanted to spend, have been very happy with it. I didn't mount mine, but it sits great (with 4 clamps) on my grill table. Fairly easy to clean, and enough space to grill items for our family of 4.
