I just love this Winegard satellite dish. We had Camping World install the one on our motorhome and now on our 5th Wheel. I really... like how easy it is to get our two TVs on. I wouldn't be without this dish ever!
Pros: Easy , Mounted on top of camper, Does not require an additional power supply, Accomodates two receivers
If you have DirecTV and travel a lot, this is the one to
get. We are full time in a motor home, and we get better
reception with... this than we did with our home setup. The
only problem is if you have two sets and want to use a dvr
to record a channel you are not watching, you need to have a
3rd line run in and DirecTV will not run any lines from your
dish. Other than that, we have had it since 2009 and not a
Crystal clear HD picture. I've got 3 TV's on a single HD/DVR & the bedroom TV on a HD
receiver and it works just great. It's... all in the installation & wiring - just make sure it's
done right. Make sure you setup your remotes on radio freq so you don't need direct line
of site to use TV & ensure the dish is on your inverter to make it fool proof for raising &
lowering when you're in a hurry to setup. Tracks all 3 satellites in just a few minutes - no
delay in channel switching like other systems. It also looks pretty
cool up there. One note - make sure to reset your receiver's each time you camp or they
will try to cleanup since the last time you camped - it's pretty easy, there is a red reset
button on each DirecTV receiver.
I'm going into my third year of using this dish and haven't had any problems with it at all. The aiming (with clear sky to south) ...takes only 3 minutes and brings in the HD signal as clear as at home. I use my DirecTv account from my home and got two extra boxes, so there is no additional account expense attached to it. If I go camping by myself, my wife still has DTV at home as I do on the road. This dish locks the signal every time, even in the mountains! I'd recommend it for anyone! Thank you Winegard and Camping World.
Pros: Easy , Easy to use, Mounted on top of motorhome
We had Camping World in Vacaville do the installation. I purchased the antenna through Camping World. They called when the antenna... arrived. I had it installed a few days later and the installation went well. It took four hours and about 20 minutes to setup the receiver.
We have not used the antenna/receiver at all yet. It will see significant use over the next 6-8 weeks. I'll update my review when I have more time with the setup.
I have the Direct Tv Genie and 2 mini genies. One in living room and one the bedroom and one outside and it works great. It takes about 5 minutes to find the satellite and you're ready to go. I get between 95% to 99% signal every time.

Replace King Dome
by Dp allegro bus – November 06, 2015
November 06, 2015
Can this be put in the same place as the king dome. Other words replace king dome with traveler 3 and use same mounted spot?
It may be possible to replace a King Dome with a Winegard Trav'ler satellite antenna. The primary issue is the difference in clearance for the antennas. The King Dome mounts to a 28" space and needs at least 8" of clearance from the nearest obstruction pending on height. Antenna SK-SWM3 mounts to a dimension of 21" x 24", but with the reflector dish requires an overall clear space of 44" x 34" to mount this antenna. Winegard SK-SWM3 Install Manual by Camping World – November 09, 2015
The other point worth noting here is that generally speaking, local channels are transmitted using 'spot beams' which focus on various geographic locations around the country. If you are vacationing in Florida, for example, and your local channels are from Chicago, the spot beam will not be pointed to Florida, and you won't be able to receive the signal.

If your local channels are broadcasted from 99°, 101°, or 103°, yes. However, you will need to contact DirecTV for any further information on obtaining local channels on the road as generally the FCC has regulations on local channel broadcasting once outside the viewing region for local channel programming associated with the accounts permanent address.

Winegard does offer a mounting plate, part# SKA-008, which is used for RV's with a thin(more common trailers as opposed to motorhomes) or uneven roof. It is not necessary for every installation.
Winegard also offers an optional roller plate(SKA-004) which is used to assist in avoiding damage to the roof when stowing the antenna. This plate is not used if SKA-008 is installed as it has an extended lip which operates in the same function.

Will this work for only Directv or willl it work with Dish too?
DirecTV uses both Ka and Ku band for programming where as Dish only uses Ku band. A different LNB configuration has to be used on a DirecTV antenna to access both bands.
by Camping World – September 16, 2015
No, another antenna is available from Winegard that is Shaw compatible. The Shaw Direct Trav'ler antenna is sold as two parts to make a whole unit. The reflector dish and LNB arm is listed as #61589 and the mount is listed as #61588.

Does this unit automatically seek and lock in the satellites or do you have to do it manually?
This is an automatic unit which will self seek satellites when powered on.

Compactibility with Australian HD TV
by Sal – June 05, 2015
June 05, 2015
Just wondering if this model is compatible with Australian HD television please.
Also height of it folded down measurements please.
Is there any outlet to buy this in Australia?
If not - what is the price to purchase to deliver to an Australian address please.
Thanks for your time
The satellite systems we have are designed only for use in North America. You want to check with a system designed for your region like SatPlus Australia or to a manufacturer that engineers an international capable system like KVH by Camping World – June 05, 2015
Does the genie allow you to record when on the road?
When parked, yes the recording feature can be used.
This antenna can not be used while in motion and without signal for TV programming the receiver/DVR has nothing to record.

I have two RVs that I switch my tv's and genie boxes between. Instead of mounting the SWM permanently onto one coach roof... can I build it onto a 'box' that I can set on the ground, making it portable between the two RVs?
We have been using the Trav'ler SK3005 slimline dish (Multiswitch) mounted on a wood platform for the last 7 years with 2 different fifth wheels. This one should be no different, and we did have to have one warranteed due to rotation gear failure early on, there was no issue with Warranty, stopped at Camping World and they gave us a replacement after I called Winegard for a RMA. I would purchase the extended warranty when you buy one... even if you had it mounted on the RV.
by RC – July 03, 2014
I am sure it is possible to mount it on a box, however this may void the warranty on the product and is not recommended. Also, the wires and cables that would also mount on the roof of the RV may not be long enough to run outside of the RV long enough to give the satellite enough room to function correctly.

Does the unit support more than one TV, and can one individuals be watching one channel while another watches a different channel? Can the unit be used while the RV is moving down the highway?
This is for permanent mount on the roof, not for use with a tripod.
