    Drain plug still too long

I put Teflon tape on the drain plug and screwed it into the water heater drain hole . But when I open the cockpit to drain the water heater it still hits the gas line when opened completely. I tried to screw the plug into the water heater a little more but afraid to strip something. The drain plug could have been designed a little shorter.

I was very hopeful, but the product is too tall, hits the gas line, and I just can't use it. Measure your placement first! This is frustrating.
