    We love ours

We bought ours about two years ago when they first came out.initial set up was a little frustrating as we decided to go with Dish Month-to-Month, and it came pre-configured forDirect. I did do the set up at home prior to the first trip, and I think that's a good idea. Once configured, it's workedflawlessly throughout the SW US. The portability is great, as my friends with large coaches have fixed mounts and runinto obstructions. I just drag the the Carry Out... out, and set it where needed. it usually locks on in about 5 minutes or less. I did install a 12v outlet right under the fiver's coax input. I then shrink wrapped the power and coax cables together into a single except at either end. Works amazingly well and a better picture than cable at home. Use the Pv 211 receiver and monthly Dish Network service as we are mostly weekenders. Very economical. Note...do not set it on the roof over the bedroom..it tends to twitch adjusting itself all night..zzt...zzt..zzt...I just unplug at night when we need to put it up there. Nice to have TV on those rainy days!

This is a great unit, very easy installation, I had very good tech help from dish with the final programming and authorize the hard drive etc. not all hard drives will work for the DVR function, I had an old Seagate that worked only part time, I finally bought the Dish XL1000.

Haven't had any problems with unit. Ijust set it on the ground, plug it in, and in a few minutes, I have a signal(unless there's trees or obstructions). Don't have to be very level. I have a tripod, but haven't had the need to use it yet. I used to have a portable manual unit(the one in the black plastic case). It was a big pain to set up and find a signal, and when I finally got a signal, it was very easy to lose it because the unit would move due to wind or anything that touched it. If I bump or move this unit, it just adjusts itself. I am very satisfied with this product.

    2 Receivers/TVs Setup

0 out of 0 people found this review helpful.
    February 16, 2013
[Also see John Miller CH Jefferies Review's] I initally setup my Winegard Carry Out thru a single coax cable that was connected to the MAIN connector on the Carryout then to the SATELLITE connector on the outside of my RV. I don't know how the signal was routed inside the RV but my assumption was that it went thru a splitter because there are two outlets in the RV...one feed to TV # 1 the second feed to TV#2. This configuration was unsatisfactory because TV #2 could only watch channels which are on the same satellite that TV #1 is tuned to, i.e. 110 OR 119 {maybe 129 also?}. It did not matter if TV#1 was on or not! I called Directv Technical Support for help. Not only did they not have a solution, they had no entry on their KNOWN PROBLEMS list!? I find this unusual because this issue is present on the REVIEWS list. I have also contacted them 2 or 3 times about this issue!! Their position appears to be that it is not a Directv issue because the signal is being routed thru a non Directv dish. SOLUTION - I connected separate coax cables to the MAIN & SECONDARY outlets on the Carry Out:: The MAIN coax is connected to the the SATELLITE connector on the RV then to TV#1 thru the splitter. The SECONDARY coax is routed directly to the 2nd receiver's SATELLITE-IN connector. This confriguration requires a coax from the second receiver to TV.#2 Although this solves the problem it creates another problem on how to route the 2nd coax into the RV to the 2nd receiver if you don't have a second individual-external connector or convenient opening. I had to route the coax thru an opened window. For a permanent solutionI I plan to mount a second connector on the RV for the second coax. So far, the temporary solution is working. I am now a Happy Camper, no thanks to Directv.

We are very satisfied with it with the exception of how easy it was to install. It is not as easy as they said it would be to install. It took a frustrating 4 hours and many conversations with Winegard and Dish to install it. After all the time on the phone with the various techs it was up and running. Hopefully, this initial installation and getting up and running was a one time only. When we move our motor home and set up again time will tell.

I love my Carryout ...however this year we will no longer be able to use it for Bell Service outside of Canada. The new satellite by Bell only covers Canada now and soon Shaw will be the same. Do not purchase if wanting your satellite outside of Canada...it isn't going to work. We need ours at home so we will still use it but leaving it at home from now on.

This is a real easy to set up Satelite. I bought the Winegard Carryout GM-1518 Automatic to use on our Fleetwood RV because I would always watch other campers trying to find a satelite signal with there unit on a tripod and moving it all around. I set it up in my yard and the first time out camping and it found the signal in two to three min. tops. So for I love it

We are from Australia and travelling around the US in a fifth wheel. We have nothing like this in Australia so it's very new to me. My brother in, law lent me a receiver, we attached the antenna cable, the power cable and within minutes we had satellite TV. This worked beyond my wildest dreams. Once the dish has locked on I remove the power cable and all is fine. For set up I just use the trailer ladder and put it on the roof, nice and easy.

Winegard Carryout Limitations for Dish receiver

0 out of 0 people found this review helpful.
    October 18, 2012
Yes, when I plug it in after proper configuration setup of receiver it accurately found satellites. But the limitations may come from the type of receiver you have. That advice came from a Dish techie who went thru Dish's rv school. We have VIP 612 DVR. The recording of shows gets flaky due to the nature of the circuitry of the dvr and how it looks at the satellite and the times of recording. Sometimes I would get red recording light but no recording or get a lost signal message, even though 2 shows were on same channel, one after the other. I have decided to use our regular turbo dish (I take forever to get it adequately aimed) when we are in one place for several months and will be using the carryout for our travels because it is so much faster (2 minutes after plugging it in) for setup in an overnight situation. My advice is to double check with Dish as to the compatibility of the Carryout with the receiver you have. Make sure you speak to their RV specialist dept.

Just bought this before Labor Day weekend. I left a day earlier than my husband and took our RV to the campground with my granddaughters. We set up camp and the last thing I had to do was to set up our new Carryout. I had watched the video before ordering it, so I knew how to set it up. Took me 5 minutes to set up and within 10 minutes not only was my TV working, but I got every channel! This never happened with our manual one! So far, we are pretty impressed.

We purchased this for our Mobile Office and it works very well. It only takes a few minutes to set up. Once the cables are all plugged in it finds the sat. Then turn on the receiver and you're good to go. We are using it with DirecTV and we can record two channels at the same time if you run two coax lines. No High Def though. Would have been 5 Stars if it was compatible with HD.

The fixed roof mounted auto dish is too often blocked by trees. We bought and carried a conventional dish and tripod and spent quite a lot of time talking to The portable dish sets up fast and does aeach other through the front window. good job. And we haven't seen any rain fade to date.

I purchased the GM-1518 about 2 years ago for my fifth wheel. I have used it every time the trailer has been brought out. Enjoy this product very much, works as advertised, is reliable and easy to use. Far superior to spending lots of time pointing a dish manually every time I take the trailer out. I highly recommend this product.

Hard to Give 5 Stars at This Price But It Earns It

Bought this unit for the dual purpose of using it at our cabin and travel trailer. I have manually attempted to aim a Dishnetwork antenna quite a few times at our cabin with no success due to heavy tree cover. I found the magnetic direction and obstruction distances on Dishpointer.com, placed the antenna in a marginal spot.Boom, I had everything, including HD. I then placed it in spots that I had manually tried before, it worked there too. I had my doubts, I am impressed.

The best money I have spent the important thing is to follow the instructions for setting it up. We use our Motor Home every week end. I open the door take the dish out set it on the picnic table plug it in and hook up the coax. It finds the satellite and locks in and you are ready to watch TV.

This is a great product coupled with the 211K Dish receiver and tripod mounting. This is our first experience with satellite TV and we are very pleased. The Carryout antenna was easy to set up and to hook up. It has worked flawlessly from the get go. We travel about 8 months a year and this system allows us to use it the few months we are in our brick and mortor homebase. Reviewing the installation videos at DishformyRV.com was absolutely essential to setting up the system.

I don't understand John Meyer's review. I have Dish and receive 110, 119 & 129 satellites. The Carry Out has a main and secondary outlet. My Dish receiver is a VIP 612. When I connect two cables up to it, One on the main which is satlelite one and the other on the seconary. This way I can watch and record a program at the same time. I've had this unit for a couple of years. It always works great.

We have had our Winegard Carryout for several years now. This product is awesome. We can receive our Bell TV on it here in Canada and in the US! We get both east and west feed and have ours going in the Rio Grande Valley. The further you are south and west for us (we are in Ontario) the more difficult it is but so far we have never had a problem. We leave ours all plugged in at home and it works just fine. The best product for RVer's ever!! I do believe there is one somewhere that works for Shaw as well. Totally different one though. If you are on Bell you won't be sorry for your purchase.
