Mostly Good and Sometimes Not So Good

Camping World installed this antenna on the roof of my Class A motorhome. It's no taller than my rooftop air conditioners, so it adds nothing to the height to my vehicle. We use it with a Dish-TV ViP211K receiver to get HD programming. The good is that it doesn't require any setup when we get to a destination. We just turn on this antenna and the receiver and it'll automatically zero-in on the satellites and establish a signal. Sometimes it takes several minutes to do that. Since my RV roof acts as a sounding board, this antenna is really noisy as it searches for signals. Once it locks on the satellites the HD images are gorgeous. I can turn off the power to the antenna after it has locked, which keeps it quiet until we move our coach. Here is the not-so-good. If I am in a shady campsites, this antenna won't work. It needs a clear path to the sky. Add a self-powered USB hard-drive to your Dish satellite receiver and activate it for a one-time charge of $40 and you have a digital video recorder (DVR) that you can program to record shows and movies... just like home.

Things they don't tell you

I just installed a RT4000T on my class A. Here are some details that they do not tell you in the write-ups: 1) There are two receiver hook-ups A and B. Your A receiver must be on in-order to obtain a lock. 2) Turning this on at 6AM to watch the morning news WILL wake-up your spouse. The unit is motorized and you will hear when it is searching. 3) You will hear it servo searching whenever it is ON. If you are parked and leveled in the RV park, you can shut it off after it has located the sat, it will be quiet, and you will not loose satellite lock. 4) The DirecTV signal strength meter only registers 75% when my old manual dish would read 93%. The antenna is smaller, thus less signal strength. I was able to get all my channels, but this might be an issue as you go to the northern latitudes. 5) This unit has a good draw off your battery. You will need good batteries or your generator running with this unit on. Don't get me wrong, I would get this unit again. I love not have to aim the dish every night. However, this is not for the faint of heart.
