Additional Information
Protect your RV appliances and your comfort at the same time by installing a 50 Amp, 240V Electrical Outlet Box at your home.

Plug your RV in to a 50 amp circuit at home and take advantage of your RV's air conditioning while preparing for a long trip or cleaning up after one. Plus, during storage, set your air conditioner's heat strip at 45-50 degrees and keep your RV dry and mildew-free. Greatly simplifies your winterizing tasks. No more anti-freeze! A 15-amp adapter may not supply sufficient amperage to get your motors up to full speed, and prevent damage from brown-out. Don't take that chance!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from power outlet Sturdy, socket is insulated from weather even when cord is plugged in. Liked it so much I bought another one and installed it on the side of the house. The only thing that could make it better is a switch so you could turn off the power so as to not trip your power line monitor while plugging in. I installed a switch in front of it so I could do just that.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Insallation Cautions I have installed and used the 30A box since 1999. Except for the 50A connector, the box is the same. Product installation information is inadequate for a novice, so this should help your to decided if your are capable of a proper installation. Remember that a standard household electrical outlet and the 30A RV power panel is single phase, 120-volt power. This 50A box is two-phase 240-volt power. This means there are two voltage lines, one from each side of the building's breaker panel. Each line is 120V to the common neutral but 240V between the two voltage lines. If a 50A-to-30A adapter is used, you will be drawing up to 30A from one of the two circuits. This means that the wire gauge from the power panel should be 10 gauge, certainly not smaller diameter than 12 gauge. As gauge size gets smaller, wire diameter gets larger. Two 30A circuit breakers, one for each of the circuits is required. They must be ganged together so that if either breaker is is overloaded and trips off, the other breaker will also be tripped off. Make sure to comply with the National Electrical Code and any local codes. By law in your community, whether county, city, or township, you are probably required to obtain a building permit and have the installation inspected. If you fail to to this and there is a fire, even if caused by an unrelated problem, you fire insurance may deny any claim for restitution of loss.

Can a 50 breaker be added to the box to isolate it ?

Can I add a 50 amp breaker to isolate the box, and how many spaces are there in the box ?
Asked by: Jon b.
This outlet box is supposed to be wired to its own breaker during installation. There is only a single female 50amp RV outlet(NEMA 14-50R) on this box.
