Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super easy to connect, understand, and use. I like it. I've only used it one time so far because I just got it. So far so good. It was super easy to use the app and to set up the notifications. It sent me a notification when I walked beyond it's range saying that power was lost. I'd say just beyond 35 feet or so from the unit. I walked back and everything was fine and working properly. I did not receive any more alerts even when I came and went from the campsite. It is really easy to connect and the lights are easy to read yet not so bright that everyone around can see that we have a surge protector. I recommend this product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Knowing the AMP draw is a MAJOR PLUS! I've had three different surge protectors and this is, by far, the best of them all. I recently converted my 30 amp RV to 50 amp and having the ability to see how many amps are used on each leg is a HUGE benefit in moving circuits around to better balance the loads. Also knowing how much power individual appliances use is a major plus. KUDOS to Hughes for coming up with this capability.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 50A Power Watchdog Surge Protector with BT We purchased this unit for our new travel trailer with a 50A service. The following are our observations and reasons for selecting this version of the Power Watchdog: Pros: + At 4600 joules, it has twice the capacity of typical suppressors at the same price point. + The surge suppressor module is user-replaceable, and it you get hit by a surge that trips the suppressor then the first replacement module is free from Hughes. + It quickly and reliably (and easily, with lights) indicates a problem with your shore power when you first plug it in, essentially telling you if it is safe or not to plug in your camper. + Bluetooth connectivity helps you monitor power usage and problems from your phone (it does not require an internet connection). + The app was simple to install, set-up and use, plus it gives you programmable alarms with min/max ranges. + Construction appears plenty rugged and weather-resistant. Cons: - Bluetooth has a limited range (about 20' or so, depending on obstructions). This means you must be on-site to receive a warning or monitor your power usage. - It does not have the ability to shut off the power to your camper if something happens, but at this price-point it was not expected. They have higher-end models that have this feature but are essentially twice the price. Overall we are quite pleased with this Power Watchdog surge protector. It gives up a degree of peace of mind and protection and can strongly recommend this unit because of its features, which are all well worth the few extra dollars over other common models.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Do not waste your money It stopped working after a month. Do not buy this product. Camping World would not stand behind this product even though we bought it online through Camping World. We will avoid purchasing from camping world as much as possible in the future.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice product! Very easy, straight forward product. I like when the product protects against surges. I don't have to buy a totally new unit if it becomes damaged by an excessive current. I can just replace the damaged internal suppressor.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great buy! Help keep track of power used! I bought it to track why I was using because the camp group d I was at was over charging g and this made it easy to prove. Plus I can’t see what appliance is using to much power when on a generator.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Surge protection for campers and RV's Excellent product. Seems to work as advertised. Haven;'t had a chance to use it at the campground, but it works great at home. Great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Yeah it’s a surge protector Good although I didn’t use the app once. I guess if you have an issue it’s good for checking. Beyond that just a gimmick.

do i have to have connect to bluetooth at all times for this to monitor the usage? or will the usage be stored and when ever i want to check on it it will up date on the app

Asked by: grover96
Yes, it will update. So the unit (as long as the Power Watchdog unit has power) will keep track (even if you lose power). When you are back in Bluetooth range, it will update the data on your phone/app.

Does the APP store total kwh for say the calendar year or the month? I would like to use this to make sure that I am being billed correctly for my energy usage.

Asked by: Paige85
So the meter is just cumulative. It does not have a time stamp. So if you wanted to measure the power use for a month, as it is right now, you would have to click the 'energy reset' button when you wanted to start that meter/counter. It is real time and cumulative. So you just look at it when you need it and that is the energy used since the last time it was reset. In the future, Hughes Autoformers plans on having a time stamp feature, but I do not know when that will be at the moment.

Can the 50 amp device be used with an adapter in parks that have only 30 amp service, or do I need both the 50 amp and 30 amp versions?

Asked by: jedi42
Yes, all the units are compatible with adapters and other brands. You can use 'dog bone' adapters going up or going down (30 to 50 or vice versa).

Does this have low voltage protection

Asked by: Jeff
This unit has Low or High voltage alert, but not any protection. You have to step up to the EPO version, SKU#117410, to have Low or High voltage protection(shut off).
