The Coast HX5R Flashlight delivers quick and easy charging. A USB insert found in the tail cap can be used with USB, AC, and DC adapters. The Dual Power System allows the light to run on its rechargeable battery or a standard C123 alkaline battery. The light also features a two-way clip that makes it easy to clip in either direction on your pockets or even the bill of your hat. Using the Pure Beam Focusing System with Slide Focus, the HX5R Flashlight can easily transition from flood to spot modes.

The HX5R Flashlight is impact-resistant and weather-resistant, and its LED is virtually unbreakable. Backed by Coast lifetime warranty against defects in materials and workmanship.

Pure Beam Focusing Optics
The Pure Beam Focusing Optic combines the Ultra View Flood Beam with the Bullseye Spot Beam to make both up-close and downrange illumination highly effective. The Ultra View Flood Beam provides a consistent circle of light up to 11.5' in diameter at 6' in distance. With the Bullseye Spot Beam, you can illuminate up to 767' downrange with a transition halo around the spot to increase the effective viewing area.

High / Strobe / Low
Control your light power with the push of a button and cycle between full light, strobe, and low light options.

Slide Focus
Spot to flood light control at your fingertips. Shape the beam with a simple push or pull of your thumb.

Dual Power
Always ready! This light operates with both standard alkaline batteries or rechargeable batteries. Battery cartridge and batteries included.

Two-Way Clip
This handy clip allows the user to clip the light to a hat brim or pocket.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice Little Flashlight + Rechargeable This is a great little flashlight. I like how the recharging port for the rechargeable battery is directly built in. With this feature, you don't need the extra cable (even though it does help) to recharge the flashlight through USB or battery pack. The simple design of focus of the light is helpful, but wonder if it will slide inadvertently over time. I do wish the push button modes were different. It would be better if the flashlight turned on low then high instead of high then low. If you just want the low setting you are blinded first by the high setting. The hook is a nice feature as advertised for use on hat for hands free use.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good light, a few design issues. The look of the flashlight is cool, the light is bright, I like the spotlight to wide-beam feature, and the clip that is tight enough to attach to hat bills and other moving objects. But, a few things I don't like as much, such as: (1) a separate part/cap to cover up the charging port, which can be lost or misplaced; (2) the spotlight feature isn't as focused as I would like, still seems pretty diffuse so I wish it went tighter; (3) I'd like for the light to actually turn off when I click the off button, not just lessen in intensity. I've only taken it outside twice so it may grow on me, but each of those items seems annoying.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Liked it so much, I bought it BEFORE I got it. (Cairn, we must share brainwaves. I bought a similar device 3 days before the February box arrived). The LED is bright and the wide beam will light up quite a swath of woods. The narrow beam is great for finding your way without bothering sleeping campers or neighbors. I like this light better than the one I purchased earlier, because of the ability to charge it via USB. Plug it in before a campout and I'm good to go for the whole weekend. I can imagine this will be GREAT for workmen and power-outages too. The wide beam will light the whole room and would be great for electricians and plumbers in tight, dark spots.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from All good but a couple annoying things This flashlight is different enough to make it worth branching out. Usually, I don't care to amass flashlights. I always seem to have just enough. But this one has features I really like. Its beam is nice and bright. and the rechargeable battery is a big plus for me. The only drawbacks are these: the focused beam doesn't seem necessary. It doesn't work as well as I'd like it to in focusing the beam, and it still is wide. Also, if the end us pulled out to make the focused beam, and the user lays it down on its end, it will collapse to a wide beam again. I'd like it not to collapse under its own weight. But other than those very minor annoyances, I really enjoy this torch.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Solid built compact flashlight. I like the rechargable option with a builtin USB connector which is super convenient, although sometimes i wonder if it will bend or break if the flashlight and the USB port on my laptop are not perfectly oriented. The dual power option is theoretically nice, but the alternate power is a rarely used battery type that i will have to get specifically for this flashlight (not happening), and u can only use one source or the other at a time. The hat clip is a really nice addition for some hands free action, and works as a reasonable, but heavy, headlamp if u wear a hat.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from weak battery life The first project for this flashlight was to assist in painting a dark area on a ceiling, to make sure the shadows weren't wet or missed spots. The beam was very focused and it worked well enough, until the battery ran out. We had 2 flashlights going side-by-side, one was a comparable-sized AA-battery light from a different maker, and one was this light, freshly charged. The charge lasted much less than we expected out of the box, and it doesn't seem to hold the charge when sitting very well. We liked the light brightness and beam options, but wish the battery life was better.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Good in theory, underwhelming in reality. The idea of this flashlight is great - execution, not so much. The packaging and description lead you to believe you can charge this flashlight via USB and use it without a battery, which is untrue. I charged this overnight and it still would only turn on while plugged in. I eventually reached out to Cairn customer service (which I'm happy to say was quick with a helpful response) and they indicated the battery has to be in either way. The battery also fits in an unintuitive way - seems like it's in backwards - in order to work. Bottom line: this is just a basic flashlight and I have a hard time finding how it's any more useful or premium than any other cheap flashlight. Nothing extremely fancy about the quality of the beam.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice light for what it is Nice flashlight. The light is bright. I like that you can change focus with one hand. The hat clip is a great idea, but of course having a heavy flashlight clipped to your hat isn't nearly as handy and a headlamp. I like that you can use the rechargeable function or standard batteries, but unfortunately the batteries needed for this aren't standard type batteries. It's something I don't keep stocked, so it isn't that convenient after all. All in all it's a very nice little flashlight and I will use it often, but I won't be taking it on any hikes.
