Rated 5 out of 5 by from It Works! I've had my Playmaker and Wally for almost 2 years now. It works - every time. Period! Yes, it needs an UNOBSTRUCTED view of the Southern sky. Don't buy one if you think you know better. Unobstructed means NOTHING IN THE WAY! I have 200 feet of coax to reach available clearings. This year, in some mountain parks, I couldn't get the Playmaker in a clear site. HOWEVER, it did peek through an opening to the south and locked onto SOME satellites. Previous negative comments were from unreasonable persons who wouldn't or couldn't work with the recievers limitations. Folks, if you are easily frustrated, don't get this gadger! Read a book. It's low tech and better for your brain.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Too much trouble I bought this satellite dish and receive for a 52 day cross country trip in our RV. So far getting it to work has been a frustrating ordeal. It has only worked 4 times out of 8 attempts. We have spend hours with Dish TV on the phone trying to get it to work but no luck with that. So it’s a 50-50 chance the satellite will work every stop you make. In every RV park we specifically ask for a satellite friendly site but it doesn’t seem to matter. I would return it if I could. Save your money. I drove 130 miles to the closest Camping World to purchase and install the Dish.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent Value Although I have a roof-mounted Winegard TRAV'LER RV DISH Satellite antenna on my motorhome which usually works quite well, there are times when I'm unable to park my coach in the space provided and still have my antenna see an unobstructed view of the southern sky. Having this DISH Playmaker Portable Satellite Antenna gives me additional flexibility. Although this is one of the least-expensive automatic DISH antennas, its performance has proven to be impressive. My coach has internal wiring between my VIP211K receiver and an outside connection. I used the included 25-feet of RG6 cable to connect my Playmaker to my coach's external connector. After switching my receiver from my rooftop antenna to this Playmaker antenna, I disconnected and then reconnected the AC power my receiver to do a cold reboot. Then I chose my location in South Florida from my receiver's new set-up menu and waited for this antenna zero-in on the satellites, configure itself and download the program guide. Total time was about fifteen minutes. Much to my delight, I observed the same number and quality of clear channels as I had been receiving with my Winegard TRAV’LER, which costs dramatically more. Since Winegard recommends using no more than 50-feet of cabling between the Playmate and my receiver, I checked to see if installing a total of 75-feet of RG6 cabling diminished the antenna's performance. It did not, but more cable will clearly give me much more flexibility regarding where to place my Playmate antenna in difficult situations.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No brainer Was worried, now I'm not! Just set it on the ground, found what I felt was South and hooked it up, had a five minute phone call, presto HD picture and sound. But be sure you know that this dish only sees Western arc birds. I didn't know this at the time and would of spent the extra on a different dish get all states coverage. I live in the west so not a problem so far.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don’t buy. They don’t work I purchased 2 of these satellites. Neither of which has worked but maybe a total of 24 hours. I have tried everything. I’ve called Dish to troubleshoot, I’ve had a technician come out, and I’ve called Winegard themselves. I’ve sent both of them in and of coarse they can find nothing wrong. They croak loudly so something is going on. Don’t waste your money. I’m $1,000 into this with everything and ended up buying a King tailgater that actually works. I would give it no stars if I could. And I’m pretty sure I won’t get any of my money back. Don’t make the same mistake.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Useless After fighting Dish with the Playmaker and both VIP and Wally receivers, I've given up. Dish support is useless as is this receiver as it only works with ZERO obstructions on the horizon and clear sky. Even a couple trees on the horizon will block the HD and guide satellites. I've tried a double shielded coax and that seemed to help for a few days but it still generates an error now.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good purchase Wasn't as easy to set up as it was said to be. After some difficulty, finally got it working. Would recommend for tv on the go!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great with clear shot to the southern sky I bought my Playmaker Satellite dish a year ago. I have had some problems, but they all resolved around tree blockage. Last Summer, I was in one park all summer long and was able to hit only 1 satellite, but as the leave started to fall I suddenly had 2 then 3. When I have an absolutely clear shot, never a problem. I have had a couple places, when around trees, where moving my RV a couple inches made a great change in my reception.

Can we use our home receiver(ViP211k) with the Dish playmaker without additional service? Will it function everywhere and will nba league pass come through?

Asked by: Jannett
Yes, the ViP211k is compatible with the Playmaker antenna. For current subscribers, 'outdoor TV' will need to be enabled on the account which should(at this time) accrue a $7.00 monthly charge. In regards to coverage, it is nationwide for Dish Network and should obtain programming anywhere in the lower 48 contiguous states as long as you have clear line of sight to the southern sky. The exception will be in the NorthEast(around Pennsylvania/New Jersey and up), as connecting with satellite 129 is difficult if even possible. This is where having a portable antenna that is both Eastern and Western Arc capable is handy as satellite 129 in the west can be substituted with 61.5 in the east. As for special programming like NBA League Pass, this is designed as an 'Out Of Market' service. Which implies you should have full access while traveling unlike some other programming which may be lost or blacked out due to the region you are currently camped at. However, you will need to double check with Dish Network as this is a provider and FCC matter. Camping World only carries the necessary hardware for mobile satellite TV, we do not sell the actual programming or have access to subscriber account information so our resources on this type of topic are limited.

Can I use my home receiver on this unit?

Asked by: MtFire
The Playmaker is compatible with Dish Solo HD receiver models: 211z, 211k, 211, 411, and Wally See the Carryout G3 antennas SKU# 112724 (White) and SKU# 115095 (Black) for a unit compatible with all Dish Network receivers except for Hopper and Joey models. For maximum compatibility, see the Trav'ler SK-1000 (SKU# 37341) as it is compatible with all Dish receivers including Hopper and Joey(Hopper 1 & 2 installs require nodes/hubs. Hopper 3 requires DISH DPH42 switch.)

Can this satelitte system be used at your home as well as your trailer as while traveling.

Asked by: Bub12
Yes, the Playmaker antenna can be used at home as well, but will have to keep in mind that only 1 satellite receiver can be supported by this antenna. So if you planned on using this unit as a replacement to a residential model Dish Network antenna, the capabilities will be limited.
