Additional Information
DuroMax’s XP5500EH Dual Fuel portable generator is designed as a powerful user-friendly unit that provides 5,500 watts of power using gasoline or liquid propane. This Dual Fuel workhorse packs a punch and will keep you powered at home, at work, and at play. With its 4-gallon fuel tank, this unit will run 8 hours on a single tank of gas or even longer on propane. Enjoy safe, reliable power whenever and wherever you need it. Compared to gasoline, liquid propane lasts longer, costs less, has a longer storage life and won’t gum up the carburetor. The generator’s flexible line allows you to hook up to any size propane tank.

The XP5500EH features an electric “rocker start” and easy recoil pull start. This unit is durable enough for construction sites and super portable, perfect for tailgating or camping. 5,500 watts provides the power to run lights, TVs, a refrigerator, or any other necessary items during a power outage. Engine noise is reduced by a super quiet muffler and cushioned 4-point motor mounts, allowing for relatively quiet usage in public areas like campgrounds, parking lots, and parks. Idle control automatically lowers the RPM’s when the generator is not in use, reducing noise and saving fuel. No-Flat, semi-solid tires make for smooth and easy transportation. Like all DuroMax generators, the XP5500EH is built with all copper windings, which will last you for years.

Features:
• With 5,500 starting watts and 4,500 running watts, this unit can handle heavy loads, from lights and a refrigerator to a home air conditioner and high amperage power tools.
• This generator runs on gasoline or propane, giving you the freedom and flexibility of fuel choice.
• The DuroMax 225cc OHV engine is a workhorse that provides plenty of power to handle multiple jobs, from powering high voltage appliances to heavy duty power tools.
• MX2 Technology lets you choose between operating the generator at both 120V and 240V simultaneously, or at 120V only with full power. Ideal for usage with RVs.
• Low oil shutoff protects your investment by automatically shutting the generator off when it senses that the oil is low.
• The power panel includes a wide selection of outlets for maximum compatibility in your applications including: 2 120V household GFCI outlets, and 1 120/240V 30A twist lock outlet. The panel also includes a voltmeter and 12V DC charging posts for charging external batteries.
• All DuroMax generators are both approved by the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) and CARB (California Air Resources Board)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Several Outages Later We've had a few multi-day outages plus multipul short ones since we got this unit. I have kept it hooked to the Grill sized LP tanks to keep from having to fool with gasoline. It runs 2 wells, a shop with a window AC, large barn w/ lights and fans,1700SQ FT house. Will not run a water heater, Central AC, electric oven or electric dryer, but it runs a LOT of stuff, we have a lot of chargers and stuff. It cranks right up and has never failed, I'm very proud of it. It just kept us powered after the hurricane Laura.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Home Power Outage I bought this generator after the statewide power outages in Texas this past winter (2021). While we were never affected by the outage it was clear that the risks in a state with an isolated power grid that we'd need to be prepared for the future. Out of the box it was as quick as removing the shipping braces, installing the wheels and handles, and adding oil and fuel to get this up and running. I've run it on both propane and gas without any issues. I have the house wired with an inlet connected to the breaker panel with a manual interlock to make it as simple as possible. Power went out at 8 pm, didn't come back on until 3 am due to thunderstorms and within 20 minutes power was up and running safely disconnected from the main line while providing power to my home. It's small (5500 watts) so it's a balancing act to ensure that key things are powered on without tripping the generator, but it wasn't all that difficult with mild temperatures outside. I recommend purchasing the biggest generator you can afford and these DuroMax duel fuels are the way to go.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Generator This was a great deal. There is assembly required. It is very heavy so when it gets delivered you will need to watch for it cause UPS or Fed X really sucks at getting it to your door

Can a 75 foot long cord be run from the generator 30 Amp / 240 Volt receptacle, to the Manual Switch Panel located on the side of my house, or is that too far of a distance?

Asked by: G-Dub
Yes you can definitely connect a 30 amp cable 75', but please note if your going that distance you should be using at least an 8 gauge copper wire cord.

Bought this generator couple months ago ran it in our driveway for couple hours running everything in our camper did great however first time using it camping it kept tripping breaker with camper plugged in and even without anything plugged please help.

Asked by: Tpenson92
We apologize for the inconvenience. Please note that its common for the breaker to flip for campers if the generator isn't ran in 120V only and if the correct RV adapter isn't used. Please contact us at 844-DUROMAX option 1 for further assistance with fixing this issue.

Does this have a Recoil Start also? If not how do you start if the Battery or Starter goes bad?

Asked by: Mack
Yes, this model will also be equipped with an electric start feature as a back up in case the main battery dies, and the generator is capable of recharging the battery once started.

Do I have to ground the generator if I am only using to run a refrigerator and/or freezer at home? Or when using with my travel trailer?

Asked by: Rob
Yes. Use a solid copper wire to the house Grounding Rods & bolt to them or drive in a new rod 6 feet away from source.

Will disconnecting the battery save battery power?

Asked by: Miwalte
Yes, this will help slow the battery from losing charge as quickly, but please note we'd still recommend charging the battery at least once within a 3 month timeframe by the generator or separate trickle charger.

Just purchased this unit and didn't come with propane hose/regulator connection for tank to generator. Is it supposed to come with one?

Asked by: Cliffy
Yes, please note that these generators will have the propane hose/regulator tucked under the gas tank and to the left of the muffler. If your still missing the propane hose after checking this location please contact us at 844-DUROMAX and we'll further assist you with a replacement.

I bought the XP5500EH. Have not yet started it. Does it have a throttle or idle adjustment? I found the choke, but no throttle. I want to run it mostly on propane and i read in reviews that i need to leave the idle control OFF when using propane.

Asked by: David
The idle control or throttle control that you'll be referring to will only be applicable on our larger units, and this particular generator won't have auto idle feature equipped; so you won't need to worry about turning this feature off for this model.
