Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product We bought one last year and it is great. This one shown is improved from ours as it has a round base instead of three legs. It stores nicely and the bag is great to stow it away in. It is easier to take a five gallon bucket full of pellets than a pile of firewood. It starts easy and they have an optional scoop with a long handle that makes adding more pellets easy and safe. A fourty pound bag of pellets will last three days. There is no smoke and no ashes to deal with the next day. If you just love gathering firewood sawing it and splitting you don't need this but it is safe in any RV park and easy to carry and use.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Smothers out and smokes Followed instructions exactly. Works great and burns great at first, but as ashes start to build up the unit will smother out very easily when you add more pellets. When it smothers out it will billow an unbelievable amount of acrid smoke. Had everybody in campground cursing me. Tried everything, tried shaking and stirring it to try to make ashes, spent pellets to fall thru grate, tried just adding a tablespoon of pellets at the time when replenishing, tried different brands of pellets. Same result. Thing requires constant attention and babysitting, and if you don't do everything perfectly you will smoke up 40 acres. I am going to try drilling out the air holes in the bottom so that it can get more air, and the spent pellets may fall thru better. Cannot recommend.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Nice when started but won't continue to burn I love the convenience of this. When I first light it it burns nice. I added pellets a little at a time so I wouldn't smother it. That worked fine for about a half hour. After that when I added more pellets they wouldn't light without me blowing on it. I think the ash gets so built up that it doesn't get enough air to keep the fire going.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Dissapointed I expected a longer burn time, seemed like I had to add pellets every 5-10 minutes after the initial amount burnt down. It was difficult to add pellets and not to smother out the flame. Went through a bag of pellets for a 2 hour fire.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Flame genie This is a great little camp fire! It puts out a large flame and a lot of heat. It does not take up much storage and wood pellets are easy to transport unlike wood bundles.

Does the bottom get hot? Is it recommended for a wood deck, or would there have to be some sort of barrier between the pit and deck? (Like set it on top of paving stones or fire bricks)

    Asked by: Tesia32
Yes, ash and embers will fall through the grate in the fire bowl(top portion) on to the stand below. Even though the stand has a solid bottom to capture fallen embers and ash, this fire pit should be placed on a non-flammable surface.

    Pellets only?

I know it's small, but I'm curious if you can use small blocks of real wood? One needs coals for marshmallows and wood pellets don't give you those...
    Asked by: Grego
According to the manufacturer: "They are designed to burn wood pellets only. If regular wood is used it will plug up the bottom grate and will not work."

The picture at camping world looks different than other sites

What's the deal? Do you sell a newer or older version of the flame genie?
    Asked by: Anonymous
We sell a newer model Flame Genie that is better suited for portability and storage compared to the original. Instead of legs like demonstrated in the product videos, the model we have has an integrated base to rest on.
