Rated 1 out of 5 by from Plastic melts and bends As one other reviewer mentioned, I too bought two of these for my two upper level (5th wheel) registers to keep too much hot air from overheating the bathroom and bedroom. Unfortunately, the first time I turned on the furnace, within minutes, the one in the bathroom closest to the furnace unit overheated such that the damper somewhat melted, kinked, shortened, and fell out of the register down into the ductwork. Luckily, I was able to retrieve it. The second unit out in the hallway and further from the furnace faired better. The bathroom unit is obviously far too close to the furnace unit but clearly this means this area really heats up too much. As a result, the main large living room/kitchen area gets short changed for heated air because the system is not properly designed as per a ductwork flow calculation. At any rate, be wary of installing these registers too close to your furnace!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Replacement floor vent I bought these to replace the cracked vents on my motorhome furnace. These were thicker plastic than the original, with gates to regulate the flow through the vent. This prevents the bathroom from being so hot, while forcing heated air to the other parts of the motorhome which need the heat. It was an exact fit, and worked perfectly for the application.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Gets rid of the squeaky floor My new Northwood TT came with a squeaky floor near two of the metal floor registers. I removed the metal registers, trimmed away some extra ducting near the hole and replaced the metal with these direct replacement plastic models. No more squeak! It is nice that they close, however I'll probably not use that feature.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not quiet what I thought. They need to make this in metal. The plastic damper gets warm and falls off of the register. Bad quality.

Can these be installed on the floor? Are they sturdy enough to stand on and not crack?

The registers I want to replace are metal. I like the damper feature, but am unsure the plastic material is strong enough to withstand standing on it.

Yes this can be installed on the floor, however stepping on the register is not recommended it will likely crack. You can probably find a better assortment of floor registers with a home improvement retailer.
