Selecting the proper rise/drop for your ball mount will help to keep your trailer level while towing. To find the correct rise/drop, while your vehicle is parked on level ground, measure from the ground to the top of the opening of the trailer hitch on the vehicle. Then, while the trailer is parked on level ground, measure the distance from the ground to the bottom of the trailer coupler. The difference between these two measurements will tell you how much rise or drop you need in a ball mount. If the vehicle is higher than the trailer (most common), you will need a drop on the ball mount. If the trailer is higher than the vehicle, you will need a rise.
