Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works well I installed this in a 1997 Itasca Suncruiser. There was a pre-etched 4 x 5 template already on the cardboard on the side of the tank on the inside of the motorhome. I pulled it and the matching insulation under it, out with my hand. There is an outlet 3 feet away where the inverter/charger is located. I had to use a short extension cord with a multi-plug because the outlet had only one plug in it. It's also right near the inverter. I agree with another writer that the 400 watts is pretty small wattage so can be used with another smaller wattage item. Just use a very short and heavy duty extension cord. This will save propane at the campground. In installing the unit, I discovered a tiny propane leak in the outside panel of the refrigerator in the propane on/off dial and was able to fix that. Three days later all is well.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from instructions need to be more complete Need to pre-warn customers as to the need to disconnect the gas line and loosen the burner assembly so as to make room to install the unit in a Atwood 6 gln models. Some may not remember to turn off the gas before disconnecting the line and may not remember to check the line connection for leaks after the install. Also need to update the instructions as to the sticky pad and the thermostat sensor. Instructions say not to cover the hole up but the new ones don't have a hole and it is confusing as to the need for the hole. I called about the lack of a hole and they said it would be OK. Doesn't make sense to obstruct the sensor but it seems to work, hope the guy was correct, as it's installed with the sticky pad covering the sensor. No, there was no punch out hole. Other than that, after 1 week on the road it seems to be doing what it is supposed to do.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hott rod electric water heater My ot water eater in my 1988 Pace arrow started to act up. So I researched this electric heatingrod for a labor day camping trip. It took about 25 minutes to install, then I plug it into the oulet in the bathroom. Took about two ours on intial start up prior to our departure. once at tjhe camp ground it had no problem keeping up wit our demand. we waited about 10 minutes between showers for three adults.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works great It was easy to install but it leaked at the heating element and adapter flange. According to the directions you can't tighten the element more than 3 turns otherwise the element might break off. After tightening the adapter flange another 1/2 turn the leak stopped. It didn't leak till after the water heater was turned on for45 min., which increases the pressure inside the tank. Works very nice.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super easy to install! I will say this upfront, I am a girl with little electrical/mechanical experience. I got this to change the water heater to electric because propane scares me! Anyway, it arrived fast, I read the instructions and literally within 30 minutes had it hooked up and ready to test. Maybe I am lucky and had an easy to access heater, but it is very straightforward. I filled the water tank back up and turned on the unit (I upped the thermostat to almost 150) and when I checked back an hour later I had hot water from the faucet. Hot enough to mix with cold water for a decent length shower. Please check that you have an outlet nearby, because the only thing I can see tripping someone up is that the cord isn't long enough and you'd have to get an outlet put in closer to the tank (they do not suggest using an extension cord). I haven't road tested this yet, but from other reviews I feel confident all will be well.

Can you use an extension cord

8ft cord not going to work for me....can I use an extension cord
Asked by: T.K>
I don't intend to go against the manufacturer, but 4 amps (440 watts) isn't anything to worry about in regards to an extension cord. Just make sure it is at least 16 gauge with ground heavy duty extension cord. Do not use a flimsy extension cord that you might use for a table lamp.

Is it easy to install? I'm single female so would do it myself. I live in my camper and this would save me on gas

Asked by: Anonymous
In most cases only simple hand tools are needed to install this kit. Difficulty will depend on how confident an individual is with basic mechanical skills and electrical wiring. The installation instructions can be downloaded here.
