I replaced every hold down we have in our Motor Home. The first one I did, was a little
difficult as it was by our kitchen sink. Hard to get to, took me a while to figure out how
the shade would go up and down with the new hard wear. Not sure what the Plastic
part is for, I never used it, but all of the little plastic round parts were cracking and
releasing the strings that pulled the shades up and down. Anyhow I redid all of them,
so I am good for a long while.

I dont need the screws or the plastic extender.
No, the manufacturer does not package these in larger quantities or separated pieces.

How does it work?

The cords from a pleated shade are run through the holes in the 'button' and tied off to the hold down. These created tension for the shade and are mounted below. If you view the following video, you can see how the shade is attached to a pair of hold downs. How to Restring an RV Day/Night Shade
