Rated 4 out of 5 by from Safely inside. 2 years ago my Class A was broken into while in storage. My 50 amp power cord was cut off inside the compartment and stolen. I put a female plug inside the compartment and now use an extension from the motor home to shore power. The advantage is I now plug my extension into the shore power and have my surge protector safely inside the compartment.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Works.......but This unit works as advertised and will certainly protect your event trailer from power surges, but be AWARE that the directions included with the unit state that after it trips, it must be thrown away and a new one purchased. It does NOT reset itself as stated by the Camping World post.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Failed after 6 months Bought this after hearing other RVers talk about the importance of having a surge guard on your RV. After going to Camping World, I decided on this model. We hooked it up and the lights worked and gave us a proper status of the posts. After about 6 trips in our motorhome, we noticed that the status lights appeared to have moisture in them. With that said, the light then quit working. I do not recommend this product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works! It did its job! Was plugged in at a campground and went out to dinner. Had the small space heater plugged in (dogs inside) and running (not the furnace). Came back after dinner and it had shut off power to the rv. We figured it was due to the space heater. About to buy another one since I left the previous one at a campground.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Portable Surge Guard Protectors Purchased item on-line through Camping World. It lasted three trips. The surge protector has a loose connection internally. I have plugged it in and get different readings every time and sometimes I receive no light indication at all. I used it in different receptacles and the same thing happened. I would not recommend it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Melted surge protector, trailer cable trapped We were leaving, turned off 30 amp breaker, could not detach trailer cord. Kept trying, finally had to use slot screw driver with help of neighbor, eventually disconnected. The slot on the power surge had melted. Green lights still on to reflect all fine afterwards. Power post registered good with melted power surge.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Still working after 1 year We used this all last year (2014) and traveled many, many miles. We have always used a surge protector and purchased this one as it offered more features over our earlier one. For the price you cannot beat the security of knowing your unit is protected from the potentially evil "Plug In Box" at campsites.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Low priced solution As surge guards go, this is pretty low priced and has a rather high joule protection rating. It appears to be pretty well made. It has several logic function indicator lights. I have no way of rating its effectiveness unless it fails during a surge. So far it just hangs there apparently doing its job.

What does it mean when the 2 green lights dont light up?

heard we had a power surge last pm. No longer lights up. Is the protector ruined?
Asked by: Anonymous
Either there is no power coming through the receptacle or your surge guard is damaged. A multimeter can be used to check for power at the receptacle. You could also try plugging in the Surge Guard in a known working power receptacle to narrow down if the Surge Guard is damaged or not. You can contact TRC's Technical Support @ 800.780.4324 x 20311 (M-F, 8:00-5:00 EST) for further assistance or warranty returns.

Does this shut off power?

Does this unit include a manual reset button or automatically restore power once the power surge or power interruption has passed?
Asked by: HappyCamper
This product does not disconnect power to the RV in the event of a fault or surge, so there is no automatic restoring of power or a reset button.

What does it mean when it displays the reverse polarity LEDs

Asked by: Anonymous
Reverse polarity means that the pedestal has not been wired correctly, specifically the 'hot & neutral legs' were wired backwards. Correct hookup is +(Receptacle) to +(Plug), -(Receptacle) to -(Plug), Ground(Receptacle) to Ground(Plug).
Reverse polarity is -(R) to +(P), +(R) to -(P), Ground(R) to Ground(P).

is this adequate for rv vs trailer?

i need something simple for travelling in my rv & staying at different campgrounds each day while driving cross country. is this an adequate device for my RV? someone told me it only is good for trailers and not rv's.
Asked by: steve
Yes this is adequate for RV use. Motorhome of any class or pull behind of any type(5th wheel, travel trailer, pop-up etc), if it has a 30amp electrical system and uses NEMA TT-30/RV 30amp to connect to a power source, this surge guard can be used to help protect the electrical system.

What does the 1-Year Manufacturer Warranty Cover?

I brought one of these early last year, and it melted around socket where the trailer cord plugs into. Is this just what is supposed to do when it gets zapped by high voltage??? Or am I eligible for a new cord? Just wanted to check before purchasing another new one.
Asked by: Nelle48
TRC's warranty document can be downloaded here. The portable surge guards by TRC are considered sacrificial and would be replaced by the manufacturer or a new unit would be purchased by the owner. Contacting TRC's Technical Support first would be suggested. TRC Contact Page

Can a person use that with a 2000. Honda gen. in a 10 ft pick up camper

Asked by: Anonymous
Yes a portable surge guard can be used with a generator. However, when a reliable clean inverter style generator like a Honda is being used, there is not any need to use a surge guard. The surge guards are more helpful with campgrounds that have an unknown/untested power supply on the same power grid as other users. Badly wired or poor condition pedestals easily cause damage to a camper, and power spikes are not uncommon at an RV park/campground, hence the recommended use of a surge guard of some form.
