Don’t be this guy! Suppose your Class A has a flat 30 miles north of Phoenix, out in the sagebrush and the yucca. Since you don’t have a spare (because of their weight and size, hardly any motorhomes come with spare tires), you call AAA and wait. Not a big deal; within an hour you’ll have a new tire and be on your way. Except that AAA doesn’t carry spare tires. They have to take your tire back to Phoenix and hopefully find the right size, fit it, balance it, and drive it back. That can take hours and leaves you wide open to paying some predatory tire dealer whatever he can get. Adding to that feeling of vulnerability is your long wait alone in the gathering darkness, listening to the coyotes. Certified

Has this product been designed and certified by an engineer to ensure that it will not fatigue and crack after several years of use?? It looks like an excellent product and I will purchase one if it is certified.
Asked by: John
No, this spare tire carrier does have any certifications by an independent party. However,In the RV towing products industry, testing standards are entirely self-imposed — there are no federal regulations in place, whatsoever. ROADMASTER’s standards — “quality to ensure reliability; reliability to ensure safety” — are the highest in the industry. ROADMASTER uses computerized testing call "FEA"(Finite Elemental Analysis) which is the same method NASA, Boeing, Lockheed Martin, GM and numerous other industries use for detailed testing of new designs. ROADMASTER was the first towing products manufacturer to invest in the software and technology to ensure integrity of their products to offer the safest products possible for your family.

Does this come with any kind of locking mechanism?

My spare tire was stolen from my under-the-chassis carrier. Does this carrier have any mechanism for locking the spare onto the carrier or does it have any kind of facility (holes for a cable lock or locking lug nuts) that would allow me to add a lock?
Asked by: Anonymous
No, there is no additional locking feature on this unit. However, at the bottom of the tire carrier is a plate with open holes on either side of the 2" square receiver. These are called "Safety Cable Tabs" by the manufacturer which are for safety cable attachment when towing a vehicle. You can use either or both of this holes for a locking cable if not towing a vehicle to help secure your tire. Assembly & Operating Instructions.
