Automotive Parts & Fluids
With a tow-behind travel trailer or fifth wheel, the tow vehicle is every bit as important as the RV. And keeping it running at peak performance helps make any camping trip that much more enjoyable. Especially when traveling to areas that are unfamiliar or uncommon, a little preparation with specific accessories and fluids can go a long way. Extreme temperatures of both kinds can put a strain on batteries, especially if they’re already on the older side. They’re easy to change out, so keeping a spare battery around is an obvious choice—especially as it can also be used with your rig. Otherwise, all of a tow vehicle’s fluids should be topped up, and that includes (but isn’t limited to) antifreeze, brake fluid, washer fluid, and oil. Many choose a diesel as a tow vehicle because of the extra power and torque it provides for hauling. Diesel engines can benefit from a variety of engine treatments that clean and lubricate the system. And because camping can also take you out to parts unknown, spare fuel cans that are colored and clearly marked are ideal for keeping dedicated fuel around, whether gas for a generator or diesel to splash up an empty engine.
