Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Value in tow bars I've used the Stowmaster tow bar for about 18 months and find it to be easy to use, simple to hook-up, reliable, and easy to take on and off of the tow vehicle. I perfer the Stowmaster with it's ball mount over others models that connect directly to the motorhome's 2" stinger adapter. The Stowmaster stays with the toad which I find more desirable than tow bars that stay on the motorhome. This is a personal prefence thing I guess, but it's MY preference. I'm in the process of trading my Jeep Wrangler for a Chevy Colorado, and all I have to do is buy base-plates for the Colorado and I'm ready to roll.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy hook up in all kinds of weather I have had my Stowmaster for over 12 years and have never had a problem with it. Since I RV year round I have come to appreciate the quickeness and efficient way I am ablr to hook the dingy up by myslef in all kinds of weather. Good design with high quality workmanship.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Lower Back Pain I bought this and have used it about a half a dozen times to tow our 2004 Jeep Wrangler behind our Class A Motorhome. It all works fine, unhooked fine, but the darn thing just weighs way to much to take it off and put it on when arriving/departing, put it in it's bag and stuffing it in one of the compartments under the motorhome for storage.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Used with 2 "toads". Works like a WONDER. One-person hook-up. I used this Stowmaster to tow my Jeep Cherokee four-down on a solo, five-week, nine-western-states tour in 1999. I got the Stowmaster accessory and wiring kit and the behind-bumper base plate installed. Hook-up and disconnect was a breeze. The self-aligning feature is nice!!! One-person hook-up is simple, when you don't have to get the hitch directly over the ball before connecting. Just get it near, hook to the ball, then pull the tow vehicle forward and the arms lock. I kept the Stowmaster attached to the Jeep the whole trip, even when 4-wheeling. Not a rattle nor rumble. When I got ready to move to a new job, I sold the Jeep and bought a Saturn. I only had to buy a new Saturn base plate and the minor portion of the wiring for inside the car, and I was again towing. The same Stowmaster tow bar again fit perfectly and performed flawlessly on the trip from California to Georgia, towing the Saturn four-down. Stowmaster makes the bar to be interchangeable, then "worries" about the actual fit through its base plates. Good design!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from towbar Installed on 2007 Jeep and 2011 Itasca. Very sturdy, a little heavy but very easy to put on/off. Great feature with the flexible movement of the ball hitch. Would recommend to anyone!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 15 years and still works great! Purchased my first Stowmaster 5000 in 1998. Just purchased a replacement today because the price was right! The original still functions as new, only minimal bushing wear. The stainless construction held up through it all, the design makes it easy for one person to hook up to the toad to the coach. One only needs to get close, the tow bar collapses and can be maneuvered in and out and from side to side, once the coach is driven forward, the tow bar automatically locks itself inline. I chose to have the tow bar remain mounted to the toad when in travel mode, but you can have it set-up to remain on the coach if you wish. Bottom line, after all the miles, it still performs as designed. If you purchase another toad, all that is needed is a base plate for the new rig, and the tow bar can be switched over to the new rig. The only maintenance I performed was: wash off the road debris and occasionally spray the tow bar with a lubricant.(WD40 or equivalent) Virtually worry free for years. I also purchased the tow accessories, which like the tow bar, worked effortlessly in tandem, the right parts for the complete package.

When using the stowmaster is anything else needed like a braking system, etc.

Asked by: David
You will also need base plates on the towed vehicle for the Stowmaster tow bar to attach to. It is recommended you use the manufacturer website(https://fitmaster.roadmasterinc.com/) to find a manufacturer part number as base plates are year/make/model specific. Once you have the part number, you can often enter directly in to the search bar on our website to be taken to a product page for purchase. If no product page appears, please contact Sales @ 888-626-7576 to order. Roadmaster's Fit Master will also provide some additional notes about ignition and wiring about vehicles if some modifications are needed to flat tow a vehicle. A set of safety cables will be needed since none are included with this tow bar, see SKU# 14630 as an example. Supplemental braking and break away kits are required in most states, some manufacturers try to track this information for RV owner's, below are two links. https://rvibrake.com/pages/flat-towing-law https://www.readybrake.com/state-towing-laws.html Braking products we carry can be viewed @ https://www.campingworld.com/hitch-tow/vehicle-towing/tow-car-brakes-accessories

Can a 2016 Buick encore be flat towed? How about a 2005 Mercedes slk350?

Asked by: David
No, a 2016 Buick Encore has to be placed on a trailer if it is an AWD model, while FWD versions can be placed on a tow dolly. As for a 2005 Mercedes SLK350, the vehicle has to be placed on a trailer.

Have 2016 Ram 1500 Hemi & considering a Stowmaster 5000 Tow Bar. Can tow bar tow truck ok, and then can tow bar tow truck & 1000# boat ok?

Asked by: Mike
This tow bar has a towing capacity of 6,000 lbs. So based on manufacturer printed specs, it should be able to pull your truck with limited cargo. Capacity of this tow bar is not high enough to pull your pickup plus a 1000 lb. boat.

Will this tow bar work with a 2006 Nissan Fronter crew cab

Asked by: Shar...
Refer to your owner's manual first to verify if your truck can be flat towed. Your Nissan Frontier may require a drive shaft disconnect from Remco to be installed.<p>To attach this tow bar, you will need to have Roadmaster brackets SKU#49065 (MX style bracket) or SKU#48707 (XL style brackets) installed first. <a href=http://roadmasterinc.com/products/brackets/bracket_type.html>Roadmaster: Bracket Types Explanation</a>

If I order this tow bar, can I install myself, do I need special tools or additional parts or does Camping World need to install?

Asked by: Anonymous
The Stowmaster can be self installed, <a href=http://roadmasterinc.com/pdf/85-1030-09.pdf>Stowmaster: Install Manual</a>. However, to flat tow a vehicle, said vehicle must first be capable of being flat towed. Secondly, the vehicle will need tow brackets installed(<a href=http://roadmasterinc.com/vehicle_guide/tow_bar_brackets.php>Roadmaster: Mounting Bracket Guide</a>), and brake light wiring/magnetic tow lights in which a professional installer is recommended. Supplemental braking should be installed in the towed vehicle, most of these systems can be self installed.

Can I used this to towing Nissan Versa 2012

Asked by: Cairo
It is recommended that your owner's manual be checked to verify if the vehicle can be flat towed to begin with. Depending on the drive train, some vehicles can only be dolly towed or put on a flat trailer. <a href=http://www.remcoindustries.com/Towing/Store.php>Remco</a> is a useful resource for towing vehicles.<p>This tow bar can be used with a vehicle like a Versa since the weight is below the capacity. However, you will also need tow brackets from Roadmaster to match the tow bar. Contact Sales @ 888.626.7576 to order as they are not listed on our website. <a href=https://www.campingworld.com/hitch-tow/vehicle-towing/tow-car-brakes-accessories>Supplimental braking</a> is required by a number of states. Safety cables are also needed along with some tow wiring(#23797) either for brake light control on the tow vehicle or magnetic tow lights(#69251).
