How do I know what I need, I always thought the two sides were equal so why the choice?
Some sway controls are reversible, these are not. If you only need one it doesn't matter which side you put it on, so a right or left unit will work for you. If you need 2 sway controls, you will need to order one right, and one left unit.

I have pop up and I just want sway control. I have a 2 receiver hitch. Can this be installed by itself?
You can, however you would also need a ball mount adapter (sold separately).
