How to properly release the latches on the bottom corners?
Use a flat edge like a coin or flathead screw driver in the grooves of the black tabs. Turn the tabs enough to free it from the frame. Then pull the cover towards you leading with the side that has the black tabs. The opposite side has teeth that line up and sit in the vent frame.
